***Original purchase date 3-25-09 The customer brought in the tractor on 6-14-The engine on this machine had been disassembled by the customer in attempt to repair itThe machine was left in a disassembled state for an unknown amount of time, possibly 2-yearsThe
customer brought most of the parts to us in boxes (several parts were missing)We could not get a complete story from the customer at this timeWe inspected the machine and created an estimate for repair, noting what parts were damaged and missingThe customer came to the shop and looked at the machine with us, and discussed the repairs that were neededAt that time, we discussed the condition of the pistons, rings, and piston linersWe inspected the piston liners and found that they were not scoredWe informed the customer that this inspection does not guarantee the condition of the ringsInspecting the rings would require further teardown to inspectThe customer declined repairs to the piston rings at this time(This is the ultimate reason that the second repair bill was necessary) Also, since the machine was disassembled when it came to us, we could not check the compression of the engine During inspection of the engine we found a keyway in the oil panThis keyway belongs in the injection pump(explanation below)After talking to the customer again, We later determined that the customers son had attempted to repair the engineThe customers son removed the injection pump for some reasonWhen attempting to reinstall the injection pump, they dropped the keyway into the engineInstead of recovering the keyway from the engine, the customer installed another keyway into the pump and started the engineWhen the engine started the keyway became caught in the timing gears and caused catastrophic damageSeveral gears were broken, injection pump, and the camshaft was broken The customer approved the estimate.(except for repairs to pistons, rings, and liners) She was not happy about spending money on the tractor, even though the damaged was caused by themWe completed the repairs that were approvedThe engine ran fine, but had some noticeable blow-bySince the engine started and ran fine, the customer took the machine, and drove it home7-7-17 Customer called 9-20-They said the machine would not startThe customer asked us to look at the machine in the fieldWe sent a field tech to try and get the tractor started, but they could not get the machine running in a reasonable amount of timeThey could not get fuel flow from the tankIt was decided that the machine needed to come to the shop Once the machine was back in the shop, the technician determined that the lack of fuel flow was caused by contaminated fuelThe tech flushed the fuel system and filled with fresh dieselThe machine started and ran, but it was hard to startWe ran the machine on the dynoIt made a amount of horsepower, but had noticeable bl(as it did before)The engine was still difficult to start. We contacted the customer and discussed the issuesOur inspection determined that the rings were worn out Created another estimate for repairs, and the customer approvedWe completed the repairs that were approved, including new pistons, rings, and piston linersIf we had made these repairs originally, it would have been substantially less expensiveThis required much of the same disassembly that had already been completed in the previous repair. It is also worth mentioning that the hour meter on the tractor does not work, and the customer declined to have this repairedThere is no way of telling how much use the tractor has. When the customer came to pick up the machine, she was very angryI tried to talk to her, and reason with her, but she just continued yelling at meShe also talked to our shop foreman, and he tried to explain the situation as wellThe customer was just very angry, and not receptive to anything we had to sayWe made every effort in attempt to pacify this customer, but obviously we were unsuccessful. She stated that “we have always had problems with it since it was new.” The tractor is approxyears old now, and there are only other documented issues with the machineOne was a fuel issue, and one was a loose connectionThere were no complaints while the machine was in warranty, with our dealershipWe are confident that the recent issues not a result of a manufacturer defectThis is not a condition which was present from the factoryThe issues are likely a result of the machine sitting for several years in dis-repair, or a lack of maintenance
