I have never been so ashamed. I was a Major during the Viet Nam conflict. In the past, whenever I traveled and saw a USO in the Airport, I always went in, had a cup of coffee, and shared stories with the men and women and always gave a significant donation. Today, my wife and I had just come off a long, exhausting flight and were thrilled to see an USO office at the Raleigh airport. The room was completely empty. We went in, showed our ID and my discharge papers to the man in charge who refused to let us in the door because I didn't have the ID he was looking for. I told him I could show him online proof of my service, but he was not interested. We could not have a cookie, a cup of coffee or even a seat for a few minutes. We were stopped at the door and turned back. I was offended and made to feel like I was trying to steal something. Men like that should not be in charge of assisting our troops. I will never donate again or step foot in another USO facility!

Review: Made a donation December 11, 2012, was told I would receive a 3 foot by 5 foot American flag, my check was cashed, On January 10, 2013 I received a USO Gift Acknowledgement card with a specific number on it assigned to me and saying I would get my flag in the next several weeks, as of today June 10, 2013 I have not received the American flag I was promised, I have written several times and received NO response.....but I have received several letters requesting me to make more donations. I want the American flag I was promised for my donation .Desired Settlement: I want the American flag I was promised.

As as deployed service member I was able to take advantage of the services being offered at the deployed base. The USO was responsible for hosting a morale welfare area that allowed military members to call home at no cost as well as provided a movie area and a library to sign out books. The USO also made available sample size health and beauty products (soap/shampoo/toothpaste) for free. The USO workers lived in the extreme environment as the service members, so I knew they were there for the right reasons - supporting the troops!
