Ripping off all customers
I am sure everyone is so happy to get gas and electric bills that go up monthly. Unitil is using market forces to make supremely high profits for their company and forcing peope to choose utility payments or buy food. Worst electric company in the USA for sure.

I am aware that Unitil holds a legal monopoly in Fitchburg, MA so I am sure this will not really be able to effect anyone's choice in service, however, I felt it would be wrong of me to not post this complaint.

Unitil overcharges ridiculously for electricity in Fitchburg. The "delivery" fee for electricity is more expensive than the electricity itself. In places like Lunenburg where [redacted] is a direct competitor, the prices are [redacted] cheaper. I've looked at co-workers bills.

Upon cancelling my Unitil account when I was moving, the lady on the phone was extremely short with me, although, I was being very respectful. It should have been the other way around. They have literally no customer service training it seems.

When I asked for a Letter of Credit, which I am required to get so I dont have to pay a 300 dollar deposit at my next location, she told me that the letter would be mailed to my new address. I asked if it could be emailed to me and I received the very short response "No." So I followed up with "Well, my coworker had the exact same letter emailed to him, which is why I asked." Her immediate response was "Well I don't have a letter to email you, it will be mailed to your new address (which I wont be getting to for another week), anything else?" and immediately hung up the phone.

This is a terrible company for prices and customer service and if at any time you have the choice of [redacted] or another company that realizes the customer is what allows them to earn a paycheck, I strongly suggest you use them.

I have contacted Unitil via phone and email on 6 occasions in the past 9 months with no response. I spoke, once, with a woman who went listen to my complaints and stated she would need to have someone above her contact me?no response to this or my 4 emails sent. The emails received a response stating they have passed my email along to an account representative and I have not heard from an account representative to date. I sent emails requesting a responses: 2/2013, 4/30/2013, 5/22/2013, /2013, and 9/29/2013 and have not been contacted regarding my concerns. I believe there is a discrepancy in our home meter readings and have taken pictures of the meter on the 'reading' date to track the discrepancies and have conveyed this to the company in my emails to them. The discrepancies amount to hundreds of dollars in difference and I am wanting to speak with an account representative regarding this. I answered all the questions asked by the woman I spoke with on one occasion and she said she would have someone contact me, again, no response.Product_Or_Service: ElectricityDesired SettlementI would like an account representative who can explain the reasons for the discrepancies and has the ability to escalate if necessary. Simply put, acknowledgement of my correspondences as well as a response so we can resolve our questions and concerns.Business Response One of my Supervisors contacted the customer and set up a meter test. We are concerned that her inquiries never reached us so we are researching our records to ensure that we do not have a problem with receiving e-mails. Since her meter is read on a daily basis, we are also sending her a listing of her daily reads. The supervisor will reach out to her when she receives it so that they can review them together.

I believe that I am being over charged for my electricity and my gas. I believe that I am being over charged for my electricity and my gas. I have almost everything off and unplugged for most of the day. I usually run a radio during the day and sometimes a fan and a refrigerator. At night for a few hours I have some more appliances on such as two televisions and two game systems. All four are used at very low intervals compared to most of the day and after 10 -11 pm at night. my bill is close to [redacted] dollars.my account number is XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX.Desired SettlementI would like to be charged properly and for them to do a proper meter reading.Business Response We verified customers meter reading and billing. We called the customer directly and discussed options to help lower his bill. He is going to submit proof of [redacted] so we can put him on the discount rate.

requested shut off at previous address, service still active. current service has been shut off twice 1 month.I lived at [redacted] St [redacted] moved out December 2013. received a call regarding late payment and shut off notice(December 2013). during call I requested said shut off. today service remains active (January 2015).current address[redacted] St [redacted] November 25 2014 service shut off for late payment. January 8 2015 payment made to avoid shut off, due 9th. January 14 2015 service shut off after payment.Desired SettlementI know I still owe you money from my previous address but you could atleast shut off the old service and stop shutting off my current service, especially after we pay you.Business Response I reviwed the recorded call from March 14, 2014 when we called customer to discuss bill. He advised at that time that he wanted services terminated. Representative told him that this need to be scheduled and asked if he could be put on hold for a moment. He told the representative that he could not be placed on hold and was driving and should not be on his phone. Representative advised him to call back to schedule the turn off when he is not driving. On April 23, 2014 we turned off the gas due to past due account but electric meter was inside so we were unable to terminate. It is the customer's responsibility to schedule the turn off and provide access to the meter. We finally terminated the electric serivce on 1/14/15 by cutting the service at the pole. As for [redacted] St. we do not have record of this customer having service at this location. It is in another customer's name and due to privacy we are unable to discuss.
