We bought a *** refrigerator from Universal Appliances this past summer for our basement. As we already had a refrigerator of this same brand in our kitchen, we felt that this would be a good purchase. However, we are encountering a problem with accumulated condensation in one of the produce drawers in the new refrigerator which is causing our food to rot prematurely. They sent a repairman who told them that there was nothing wrong with the unit. However, it should be noted that this same repairman was in our house last winter to fix our upright freezer that we had bought just two years ago.

Based on the information of this repairman, Universal Appliances has told us that there is nothing wrong with the refrigerator. However, given that this is our second refrigerator of the same brand in less than four years, we can compare the functioning and we are the ones dealing with rotting produce and that is not acceptable.

We have made several calls to the staff at Universal Appliances and have spoken to *** who told us that if the product was defective it would be replaced. When he did not call back, we called again and spoke to a guy named *** It should be noted that we have made a good many calls to *** who always promises to get back to us. However, he never follows up with an update. We also spoke to the s*** who promised that he would look into this matter and get back to us. Instead, *** called us back.

Given the lack of success in getting this resolved, I called and asked to speak to *** once again. I was kept on hold for at least 20 minutes as I had indicated that I would wait to speak to him. Finally, the receptionist came back on the telephone and informed me that *** had hung up the call he was engaged in and had gone directly to serve a customer. At this point in time, I told the woman that I would be pursuing complaints with your agency as well as *** I have not heard back from Universal Appliances at this point in time . We would truly appreciate any help that your agency can provide us with this complaint.

Good afternoon,

I did have an opportunity to respond to this client after she had posted a complaint on ***. She does in fact have two of these fridges within her home. The information we received from the technician that visited her, was that she was over loading this particular fridge with produce. Produce gives off a certain level of humidity and there are bins within the fridge to house produce. But the fridge was apparently full of produce, therefore the items she is putting into the fridge are generating the excess humidity. A fridge on its own does not generate humidity within it's interior.

When I responded to her *** complaint I mentioned that perhaps it would be a good idea to remover the excess produce from the fridge to see whether or not she ends up with this same issue. I also mentioned that I would be happy to speak with her, but did not hear back from her.

I am rejecting this response because: no one from this company took the time to contact us by telephone. We never received the feedback mentioned as we were not aware of this response. There is a total lack of verbal communication on the part of this business. We find their rationale illogical as we always stock up on produce and have never encountered such a problem with other refrigerators. When we contacted the company, we spoke to three different people. We spoke mostly with a man named *** who always promised to get back to us; however, unless we chased him down to speak to him, he never returned our calls.

In short, we are totally dissatisfied with this company and unless they show more interest in resolving our problem by contacting us by telephone, we will never ever set foot in their store again. The technician they mention had been to our house previously to repair our two year old freezer. He came and diagnosed quickly; changed a part and lo and behold, two days later, all the food was thawing once again. He was back and admitted that he had misdiagnosed the issue and repaired the freezer once again. We tend to dispute this technician's view of the problem as he has been wrong in past dealings with us and question his expertise with our issue. This has been a very frustrating and stressful situation. We paid $*** for a refrigerator that we felt would be of a superior quality as we have another refrigerator of the same brand that we purchased approximately three years ago without having any problem. For this reason, we are able to compare the functioning of these two appliances and are smart enough to realize when an appliance is not working well.

We do not consider this issue resolved by any stretch of the imagination.

I have had the opportunity to speak directly to the client.

As mentioned she has two fridges from the same manufacturer, essentially the same model. In one unit she is experiencing more humidity in the crisper than in the other. We have determined that in her older model the humidity trap within the crisper had been removed, where in the new one it was in place doing what it is supposed to do. Which is to trap moisture from the produce in the bin and redistribute it, which is why I believe she was experiencing the difference. I've suggested to her to remove the humidity trap in her new fridge to see if it will resolve the issue she is experiencing and to have this fridge work more like her previous model.

We'll be speaking again this afternoon or early tomorrow to see if the issue has been resolved.
