Complaint: [redacted] I am rejecting this response because: Mr O [redacted] states that their 'appropriate' action was settled in accordance to their policies However, I find it difficult to believe that their policies allow them to mark an account as dormant, start auto deducting monthly fees from it and not appropriately notify the account owner that this action is taking place This is exactly what they did as I was most definitely not notified - not when they began the deductions nor was I notified each month that they continued to take funds from my account Since I've filed this complaint,, I've found that other previous members of UH Federal Credit Union have experienced the same situation so this is not an isolated case What I would like to see as a resolution is for the UH Federal Credit Union to refund all the funds that were improperly taken from my account - this amounts to $ Sincerely, [redacted]

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/04/11) */
I welcome the opportunity to respond and clarify the manner in which our members were informed about the inactive account fee.
The purpose of the inactive account fee is to encourage members to use their accounts. When members are not...
transacting on the account for at least one year, a $5.00 inactive fee is assessed monthly to compensate for the University of Hawai`i Federal Credit Union ("the Credit Union") efforts to maintain the account.
The Credit Union properly notified our members of the existence of inactive fees on several occasions. At account opening, each member is provided with Membership Agreements and Disclosures which adequately disclosed possible fees that may be assessed for inactive accounts.
In addition, the Credit Union placed a notification in its Ka Lono Pu'uku 2011 third-quarter newsletter which notified members of dormant fee assessments on accounts that are inactive for one year. Finally, the Credit Union timely informed its members the inactive fee was being increased to $5.00 with its Schedule of Fees (Effective December 2012) which was included with the September 2012 periodic.
It is the Credit Union's priority to serve our members with the best customer service and communicate information effectively. Thank you for the opportunity to respond.

I am rejecting this response because:
Mr O[redacted] states that their 'appropriate' action was settled in accordance to their policies. However, I find it difficult to believe that their policies allow them to mark an account as dormant, start auto deducting monthly fees from it and not appropriately notify the account owner that this action is taking place. This is exactly what they did as I was most definitely not notified - not when they began the deductions nor was I notified each month that they continued to take funds from my account. Since I've filed this complaint,, I've found that other previous members of UH Federal Credit Union have experienced the same situation so this is not an isolated case.
What I would like to see as a resolution is for the UH Federal Credit Union to refund all the funds that were improperly taken from my account - this amounts to $45.00.
Sincerely,
