Review: I made a payment on my student loan for which the University Of Pittsburgh is the creditor and I paid a month in advance and checked the box for the excess payment to be treated as March's payment. The payment was improperly processed as being paid to simply reduce principal on the loan instead of being next months payment. This is the second time that the exact opposite of what I checked on the form happened.Desired Settlement: I would like the previous payment to be handled as it was indicated on the payment form and any erroneous fees to be corrected.

RE: ID [redacted]To wham it may concern,I arn writing in response to the above complaint filed against the University of Pittsburgh concerning a billing or collection issue. The customer has a loan from the University of Pittsburgh that assisted him in paying his tuition while enrolled at the institution. The student loan is in default and the borrower recently established a partial payment arrangement of $20.00 per month. I have attached the last four remittance slips that were returned with this payments. Only on the final remittance due March 1,2016, did the borrower check the area to apply the overage to a future payment. We will count the overage as his April 1, 2016 payment but that does not stop the account from being billed for the agreed partial payment. The borrower was charged a $1.00 late fee that I have transferred to his account balance. If you require any additional information, please contact my office at ###-###-####.Sincerely,DirectorUniversity Collections
Review: I got a call from [redacted] yesterday 2/17 at 5:58pm and again today 2/18 @6:59mst. When I returned the phone call a recorded message said that I have reached the university of Pittsburgh switchboard. I have never done business with the university as well as I have never even been to the state that they are located in. I also have never contacted them for any reasonDesired Settlement: to have the university take my name and phone off their contact list
Review: I set up a payment arrangement for a balance due on an account. Individual in charge of collections failed to inform me that if I did not pay the amount in full that they would report balance to credit bureau. Had I been given accurate information I would have chosen to pay amount in full as opposed to setting up payment arrangements. Individual that I spoke with to try and get the situation rectified was unhelpful and rude.Desired Settlement: Individuals in charge of customer service should be trained to treat customers with respect and refrain from becoming rude and defensive. Customer service reps should also be sure to give customers accurate information so that they can proceed with payments appropriately.I am requesting this item be removed from my credit report due to inaccurate information being reported by customer service rep. I also recommend better training for individuals that they hire involved in customer service.

Review: Hello. After graduating, I had an unpaid balance on my tuition. I spoke with a rep. from the billing department and she told me that she would start billing me. I received a bill shortly there after and began making payments on it. Two years later (after making every payments and even making additional payments after receiving my tax return, and even emailing the rep. to let her know of this) I was told this was a different university bill and I never made a payment to the tuition. The rep. told me this was my own fault and offered no alternative for me despite their negligence in letting me know this (even when I checked in to let them know of payments- all of these emails are on hand and can be given). I contacted them again to try and make payment plans and was never given a system for how to do so. The most recent time I contacted the same representative, she was personally insulted me. I did not have the money to make payments prior and when I asked to begin making them again she insulted me saying that I had not even paid half the balance yet, how will I be able to make any payments. They now turned me over to a collection agency when all I want is to be able to make payments to them, I do not trust collection agencies and want to deal with this in house.Desired Settlement: Ideally I would like to have this debt reduced or eliminated. I believe that the bulk payments made to the bill which I thought was my tuition should be credited to my tuition. I also want to make payments to the University and have the collection agency eliminated from this process altogether.

Response:
RE: Complaint ID [redacted]
To whom it may concern,
In response to the complaint filed on October 23, 2014, below is our response.
This individual has an unpaid tuition account which is in collections as well as a Federal Perkins loan which is current with monthly payments being made. The lump sum payments that the individual makes reference to were applied to his Federal Perkins loan. The University of Pittsburgh took the following actions in our attempts to collect the unpaid tuition account.
According to our records, in March 2014, an employee of the University of Pittsburgh called him about his unpaid tuition balance and he said he would be making a payment before the end of the month and wanted to set up a payment plan, in June 2014, our employee sent an email asking about his plan to pay his tuition account balance. In July 2014, our employee called his cell phone, discovered it was no longer in service and phoned the home number and left a message. In August 2014, he emailed the our employee asking about a payment plan. He was given his options for a monthly payment plan. In September 2014, he inquired as to how he could have the financial hold on his records lifted and he was informed that he would need to pay the tuition account in full in certified funds. After 30 days with no additional contact, his account was placed with a third party collection agency. Seven days later, he emailed the University of Pittsburgh because he got a call from the collection agency. We responded to his email informing him that he would need to contact the collection agency to make payments.
In an effort to resolve this issue, we can recall the account from the collection agency but this is a legitimate financial obligation owed to the University of Pittsburgh and we do not see any basis to reduce or eliminate the balance.
If I can be of any further assistance, please contact my office.
Sincerely,
Director
University Collections
