My complaint is in reference to my husband, [redacted],(medical record number [redacted]) who was treated at [redacted] in 2013 of acute myeloid leukemia. When we came to MD Anderson in February, 2013 for consultation, we had already undergone a grueling year of treatment at [redacted] , chemotherapy and stem cell transplant only to relapse. Faced with few options, we placed our faith in the professionals at MD Anderson Hospital. After an intense 9 day round of chemotherapy and weeks of follow up, we were told that the chemotherapy had no progress on the progression of the disease. We were offered a clinical trial, IPI-145. This required traveling back and forth to MD Anderson from our home in Nashville, TN, hotel, etc for several months. We were told that by submitting our receipts for these expenses, we would be reimbursed. We did as we were instructed. The clinical trial stopped working the first of August and we were told there were no more options for us. My husband passed away on September ** 2013 at home. He passed away believing that the large credit card bills we had incurred during the clinical trial would be taken care of. We never thought that there would be any problem. It is now January [redacted] 2014, and still no reimbursement or acknowledgement of the false misrepresentation. My husband is no longer here to know how we have been treated and I am thankful for that. Shame on medical facilities and drug companies that treat terminal patients and their families as lab rats . This should not be allowed to happen. I feel angry because my wonderful husband was so trusting and his trust has been violated. He is no longer here but I am . I am here to speak for him.
