University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Reviews (3)

Review: I am a second-year master's degree student in communications. This past spring semester at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, one of my professors [redacted] served as a major disruption in my educational process. All semester long, I had to contend with behaviors and commentary from this professor that was insolent, condescending, unprofessional, and uncalled-for. Coupled with that was unjust and unreasoned grades she was sticking me with all semester long, constantly giving me C's with no basis. I ended up coming out of [redacted] course with a C grade because of all the wrongful, unjust grades she stuck me with. Mind you, C's are considered failing in the master's program.

[Examples of [redacted] misconduct and unjust grading are listed below. Mind you, I have hard evidence as to the wrongfulness in [redacted] grading in the form of e-mail correspondence she and I had, as well as the graded assignments in question]:

EXAMPLES OF [redacted] GRADING INJUSTICES

1. [redacted] got off to an unprofessional start from the get go. In one of the first few class periods from back in February, [redacted] had failed to give proper notice that class would

be held from a different classroom from the usual one. This was a three-hour night class mind you, and that night I had tripped all the way up to the college to find no one in

the classroom. There was no note posted on the door and no note posted on the wall beside the classroom door. After waiting around for 10 to 15 minutes, I finally left and

went home. When I got home, I checked my school e-mail and [redacted] syllabus to see if class had been cancelled but there was no notice of cancellation. Mind you, [redacted]

deducts points off your grade for missed days. With this in mind, I e-mailed [redacted], letting her know what happened and inquiring on whether or not class was cancelled. A half

hour after class was over, [redacted] e-mailed me and let me know that she had written a note "inside the usual classroom at the very front of that classroom on the whiteboard."

She then apologized for "my" confusion and included nothing else in her e-mail. I sent her a respectful reply and that was that. In that following class period, a major

assignment was due. I later found out from another student that [redacted] had went over major points of this assignment in that missed class period. Although I had followed all

of [redacted] written instructions, she docked me for unmet expectations never mentioned in her written instructions. I ended up with a C for this assignment as a result.

2. As I was handing in a completed assignment to [redacted] on its due date, she briefly glanced at it and told me that I had forgotten to include some numbers so as to make my

outline easier to read. She suggested I take it home and correct it, that if I e-mailed it in before 12:00 that night, she wouldn't dock me any points. Although I thought the

criticism was rather petty, I politely agreed and thanked [redacted] for allotting me the extra time. Mind you, this was a three-hour night class, so I was forced to rip and run and

change my plans for the night. Despite the fact that I made the correction and turned in the assignment before 12:00 that night, [redacted] docked me several points for "lateness."

She has "late" written in big letters at the top of that assignment. Coupled with that, she made a number of other criticisms in areas where I specifically followed her

instructions. As a result of the unjust docking, I ended up with a C grade. I have hard evidence as to these injustices in the form of e-mail correspondence and the graded

assignment in question.

3. [redacted] assigned an interview assignment in which students were to interview a professional from the career in which they aspired to gain employment. Prior to the due date

of that assignment, I e-mailed [redacted], letting her know who I'd interviewed. She e-mailed me that she refused to accept my assignment because my interviewee hadn't worked

in the field in question since the 1990s. Mind you, "that we should not interview anyone if they hadn't worked in the field since the 1990s" was not apart of [redacted] instructions.

[redacted] then sent me another e-mail, suggesting I not turn in this assignment on the due date but have a conference with her after that class instead. She suggested this to

make her expectations on this assignment clear and I agreed. As planned, I turned in nothing on the due date but instead had a conference with [redacted] after that class period.

In that conference, [redacted] suggested I interview a particular professor of the university and I agreed. She also gave me a new due date. I followed [redacted] instructions and turned

in my assignment prior to the new date, and [redacted] docked me numerous points for turning in nothing on the original due date, resulting in a C grade. I also found out the

person who [redacted] urged me to interview had not worked in the field in question since the 1990s (again, [redacted] reason for refusing to accept my original, completed version of

this assignment was because the interviewee had not been involved in the field since the 1990s). Mind you, I have hard evidence for all this through e-mail correspondence

with [redacted] and the assignment in question.

4. APA guidelines for in-text citing state explicitly to use the title of the article when the author's name is not provided. In my research paper, I did exactly that. However, for

each time I did this, [redacted] marked me incorrect as is shown in my research paper, which I still have a copy of. When I notified [redacted] of this in person, she conceded that I'd done

it correctly, but added that I could have looked elsewhere online other than the article in question and probably found the author's name. With that, she kept the deduction

points as is.

Mind you, [redacted] only had about 5 assignments for this particular course, so it was crucial to do well in every one of her assignments. Consequently, each time [redacted] shafted me in her docking/grading of each individual assignment, she was severely hindering my ability to do well in the course. And she shafted me in the grading of every assignment for the class, which I have hard evidence for. What ultimately led to my receiving a C for this course was a combination of: docking me numerous late points where I wasn't late, several times; docking me in areas in which I explicitly followed instructions; and docking me for unmet expectations never addressed in her own instructions.

EXAMPLES OF [redacted] MISCONDUCT

1. During that conference alluded to above that [redacted] suggested we have, she was brazen from the start. As soon as we both sat down, she repeatedly asked me what I was doing

at UW-Whitewater and college in general, letting me know in the same breath that I wasn't doing well. She then began to question me incessantly about where I got my

degrees, what schools I went to, who were some of my previous professors, etc. Ex. "Did you get your degrees from here????!!!! Who were some of your previous

professors?!!!! What were their names?!!!!" In-between these repeated condescending questions, she'd tell me I wasn't doing well.

2. As had been the case in past interactions I'd had with [redacted], she spewed a tirade when I made a polite reference to one of my previous professors because she detected I'd

used "Mrs/Mr" as opposed to "Dr." She told me that she herself has a doctorate degree and so does the professor in question and that I'm never to refer to a doctorate

professional as "Mrs/Mr", but "Dr." She went on and on about how I should know better than this and that I'm to never use "Mr/Mrs" with people who have earned their

doctorate degrees. Included with these tirades, she'd rant about how I'm never to do it with women in particular and that a lot of men do it to women on purpose because

they're sexist. I was always perplexed as to how her rants would escalate into how "men are sexist" over such an irrelevant, trivial matter. For one, I was referring to male

professors when she spewed these tirades.

3. When she was interrogating me on who I got my degrees from, I had trouble remembering one of my professor's names and she became abrasive and told me, "This is the

graduate level. By this point, you should be able to remember a names of a professor. This isn't the undergrad or high school level anymore. You're to know stuff like this by

now."

4. During that conference, I told [redacted] that I had conducted my interview on the assignment by phone because my interviewee was unable to meet with me in person. [redacted]

became loud and abrasive. She began barking at me that those were not the instructions. She spoke to me like I was a child of hers. Mind you, [redacted] instructions said nothing

about carrying out this interview in person.

As a result of [redacted] misconduct and unjust grading, I made a behavioral complaint and grade appeal to the chair of the Communications Department immediately after semester ended on May 17, 2013. As part of these complaints against [redacted], I provided hard evidence to the Communications Department chair and Provost office dean that corroborated the fact that the grades I'd received were wrongful and unjust. My evidence came in the form of: A.) e-mail correspondence [redacted] and I had; and B) the graded assignments in question.

Here it is over 2 months later with summer vacation waning down, and I am still waiting for UW-Whitewater to appropriately address the matter and get back to me. For the last two months, I have been repeatedly sending UW-Whitewater letter after letter after letter after letter, detailing these matters and trying to get the issue resolved. They seem to come up with one excuse after another for postponing and drawing out the matter. And I only have so much time to get these matters resolved considering a new semester will begin soon.

INEPT AND INCOMPETENT HANDLING OF GRADE APPEAL/MISCONDUCT COMPLAINT BY UW-WHITEWATER

I e-mailed the misconduct complaint and grade appeal to Communications Department Chair [redacted] (who was also my professor in another class this past spring

semester) as soon as semester had completed. Days later, the communications department chair asked if I'd give him extra time because he needed to finish grading

assignments for his own classes. Even though their grade appeal guidelines state that students should only have to wait 7 days, I agreed to this.

Final grades had come out about a week later and I detected that [redacted] (who I'd sent my complaints to against [redacted]) had suspiciously given me

an "incomplete" for his course. This was shortly after I'd submitted in my complaints against [redacted]. Two weeks had past and I still heard nothing from [redacted]

(early June by this point) since he'd asked me to give him extra time to grade assignments. Finally, I e-mailed [redacted] and inquired on how my grade appeal was coming

along against [redacted]. In addition, I also inquired about the "incomplete" I'd received in his class after submitting my complaint against [redacted].

In his e-mail response to me, the chair asked if I'd like to submit my grade appeal against [redacted]. I was a bit taken aback by this question as I thought he'd at least

initiated the grade appeal process by this point. In addition, he stated that he gave me an "incomplete" because he felt my topic in my final research paper was slightly off

and that I could redo it for an A. He informed me that several other students from that class had made the same mistake and were redoing the paper as well. He also

informed me that getting an A could balance out the C grade I'd received from [redacted]. In my return e-mail, I informed the chair that [redacted] grade was negatively impacting my

GPA too much for me to simply brush it off, that I was in danger of not being able to continue with my master's. Although frustrated with this whole suspicious "incomplete,"

I politely accepted his offer to redo the research paper. I informed him, however, that it would have to wait until I got the matter regarding [redacted] grade resolved, that if

[redacted] grade is to remain the same, I wouldn't be able to continue on with the master's. I explained all this to the chair. He said ok and let me know that he would submit my

grade appeal in against [redacted].

After 2 weeks of no e-mails from [redacted] (late June by this point), I finally inquired on the status of my grade appeal to him. Almost immediately after that follow-up e-

mail, he replied with a brief e-mail that the matter had been submitted to all the professors of the Communications Department and dismissed. Because of the immediacy of

his e-mail response, I was suspicious as to whether or not he really submitted the matter into all the professors. If he had in fact submitted it, I wondered why he never

bothered to e-mail me until I e-mailed him to follow up on the matter. In my return e-mail, I asked [redacted] what was their basis for dismissal. I complained to him that I felt

I had no involvement in this process whatsoever and had no opportunity to present my evidence of: A.) graded assignments and B.) e-mail correspondence with [redacted] Vogl-

Bauer. In his return e-mail, the chair informed me that it had been dismissed because I didn't provide my graded assignments as part of my complaint. He added that he'd be

happy to resubmit the matter if I did this, along with providing any other evidence I had as to the matter.

The following day, I submitted evidence against [redacted] in the form of e-mail correspondence and graded assignments. I spent hours upon hours gathering past e-

mail correspondence between [redacted] and myself that supported my claims of unjust grades. In addition, I gathered hard copies of all my graded assignments for her course and

made three copies of everything to send to the two departments of UW-Whitewater. I tripped all the way up to the college and sent in envelopes with my graded assignments

into the Communications Department and the Provost Office. I sent in the matter to the Provost Office dean because UW-Whitewater's grade appeal guidelines state to seek

assistance from the Provost Office as a next step after the Communications Department chair. Given the difficulties I was being presented with by the Communications

Department chair, I chose to report the matter to the Provost office as well.

A week later, [redacted] informed me that he'd received my resubmitted materials, but that no one would be in office that week because it was 4th of July week. He informed

me that he would resubmit my case the following week. It's now July 20, 2013, and I've still yet to hear any word back from [redacted]. I've dealt with his inefficiency in

handling this matter now since May 17, 2013, over two months ago. The last word I've heard on the matter came from Provost Office [redacted] on July 12, 2013. I

was looking forward to his e-mail because he wasn't previously in office for a month and was finally able to return my e-mail. However, in his first e-mail response on these

matters, he told me that my grade appeal had to be presented separately of the misconduct complaint before he could review it. This was inaccurate, however, as I had in fact

sent the grade appeal and misconduct complaint separately. In my return e-mail, I detailed to him the exact date to which I e-mailed him my individual grade appeal and the

exact date to which I e-mailed him my individual misconduct complaint, adding that I even went the extra mile of sending in hard copies of each of my graded assignments.

I've yet to hear back from any of them now. Semester starts at the very beginning of September, and [redacted] is expecting me to do a research paper redo. I will be unable

to do all this if these department chairs continue to fool around with these matters.

The fact that the chairs I've dealt with at this university are dragging their feet and incompetently handling what is a serious complaint matter against what is an abusive, unjust professor of theirs is deeply disturbing to me. UW-Whitewater's master's degree program cost up to $4000. This is not chump change I've doled out to be apart of this program; this is an enormous amount of my hard-earned money. These kind of expenses call for them to have a competent and respectful staff. That they don't have a decent and efficient manner of resolving serious complaints against abusive, problematic professors like [redacted] is a glaring injustice to all of its paying students. Furthermore, I am a student of Center for Students with Disabilities program at UW-Whitewater and the fact that I have been verbally abused and degraded by [redacted], shafted by her through grading, and subsequently put through all these many hassles in trying to get this complaint resolved is an absolute abomination of this university. And I full well plan on calling out the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater all about the Internet, newspapers, different complaint organizations, etc., if they continue to goof around with what is a serious complaint matter about an abusive, degrading professor of theirs.Desired Settlement: I either want: A.) my money back that I spent for the master's degree program at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater or B.) no less than an A for the course I had with [redacted] and the course I had with [redacted].

Again and just for clarification, I was maltreated by a UW-Whitewater professor ([redacted]), cheated in terms of my grades by this professor, and then forced to go down a long series of hassles in getting a grade appeal and misconduct complaint resolved. It's now over two months since I've first submitted the university these complaints and they've still yet to address the matter which is unacceptable. After I submitted in my complaint against [redacted], [redacted] (who's the chair I was sending my complaints into) gave me an "incomplete" for his class and said that I'd need to redo his research paper. Despite being frustrated by this that it had something to do with me making a complaint against [redacted], I politely accepted. However, I can't redo his research paper until I get the matter with [redacted] resolved because it's negatively impacting my grade too much, yet he has been dragging his feet in assisting me with resolving the matter with [redacted].

I have two degrees and I have never dealt with this kind of unprofessionalism in all my years in college. All these hassles stem from [redacted]'s unprofessionalism and abuse. I want no less than A's in both of these courses and [redacted] needs to be penalized by the university. To boot, I also need confirmation that I won't be degraded and insulted by UW-Whitewater professors if I'm to continue on at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Thank

you so much for your contact. Federal law prohibits the university

from discussing the records of a particular student but I can promise

you that the

university has complaint and grievance procedures in place. Should Mr.

Llewellyn have concerns or questions about those processes, I would be

happy to talk with him.

If you have specific questions, please let me know.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I'm just following up with the

Revdex.com complaint I made out against the University of

Wisconsin-Whitewater from earlier this summer. The University of

Wisconsin-Whitewater has done absolutely nothing to resolve my complaints

beyond dragging me through more runarounds. Since my last interaction with the

Revdex.com, the university has only continued in their same complaint mishandling

practices I dealt with all summer long. Not only that, but they have

exacerbated these matters one hundred times over in the last month. I'd like

for you all to add my complaints against the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater

to your public records and spread these matters public as much as possible.

Review: On the morning of April 28, I contacted the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater through their website for the purpose of ordering a transcript. I was given several mailing options and I chose the FED EX mailing option. The Website stated that if the order was processed prior to 1 PM, my order would ship the same day. My order successfully processed shortly after noon on 04/28/16.The Registrar's Office failed to contact FED EX for pickup of my order until Friday, April 29. My order did not ship vial FED EX until Monday, May 2. Today is May 3 and I still have not received my order.

I contacted the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater on May 3 and requested a refund of my Fed Ex Charges because, in my opinion, they did not do what they said they would do which resulted in delayed mailing of my transcript. I was told that they would not refund my Fed Ex charges.Desired Settlement: Refund of Fed Ex charges.

Response:

My issue was that I payed for expedited shipping but didn't receive that

Review: I was charged some overdue and late fees with this school in a situation where I should not have been. Not only that, but when I tried to contact the school about it and follow the grievance process, they said they would not look into my claim and the ruling stood. I was charged overdue fees when I wasn't even a student, so I didn't ever receive a bill for the fees to begin with, and when I asked for the courtesy when giving the proof that I shouldn't be charged or should at least have the investigation that I was being honest looked into, I was completely denied. In addition, when I tried to contact individuals about this matter, they would take weeks to reply, only further exhausting the issue.Desired Settlement: I would like for the charges to be dropped as the courtesy considering I have explained why I didn't know I had the charges, why I thought there wouldn't have been any charge, it is such a minimal amount, and because I was harassed when I tried to explain my situation.
