I contacted University Row Apartments in March of this year. After leaving several messages I finally received a phone call from the property manager who was absolutely one of the rudest, condescending people I have ever spoke to on the phone. If she conducts business face to face like she does over the phone I'm surprised that University row is still in business. This woman should be fired immediately for unprofessionalism. Clean your act up University row!

This manager is very egotistical,doesn't give deserving tenants a second chance while it seems to be easier to put people to the curb.it is very unfair!!I have visited and corresponded with a friend who was there recently,its very dirty,and unsafe for children.They would rather rent to tenants who are having sex in the pool rather than keep good tenants.

Now Mr. V. and his property manager at University Row Apartments need to put their "shoes" back on that they wore on March 28th and do their due diligence towards Brenda F., a very genuine person to say the least, as the property manager always knew this for the last 7 yrs.The property manager certainly this one time should have vouched for her,considering the outstanding past history of renting to her. Yes,she has told me ,and even shown me both sides of the scenario with complete honesty.It was by far unacceptable on how poorly she was treated during her stay at University Row Apartments.As traveling and holding her own out there, it really was not necessary for One Stop Housing to point 3 "guns" o her head. Totally unfair, unethical, ingenuity and of course ironically "Way out of Line"!!!????

Since the weekend of Thanksgiving, we had been waiting for an apt. to move into supposedly waiting only for the eviction process to complete with former tenants. First at Oakridge/4800 tamiami where we later learned we couldnt move into at all but then transferred the application to venice location/seminole apts where we followed up AS DIRECTED only to be told they would not rent to us for checking in too often. We have been living in a hotel costing about $125-150 DAILY after being thrown out of our last home by the slumlord who had been stealing rent only to claim it was unpaid. regardless- we met with maryse and discussed moving in to the seminole apts in venice fl in EARLY January when she told us that there was an eviction going on then already and the apt would be open and available in 1-2 weeks. We sent the application over the next day and then waited... We called about once a week to check on the progress and on 2/21/19 we called again and were told she hadnt yet processed our application (2-3 weeks later and still hadnt even done that- 1 week later than we were originally told the eviction should be done) and that it should be done by monday, 2/25/19. Monday we called back and were told still hadnt been done. We have also been working with the ymca homeless prevention program through my disabled daughters school which was all set to help us move in with the needed deposits. So today, 3/1/19 well over a month after being told 1-2 weeks and calling only once a week to check in, Maryse behaved even worse than the normal level of rude and unprofessionalism she USUALLY is (and is known for apparently) and upon asking if she had processed the application yet so we at least KNOW if we have a home waiting for us over a month after putting application in, several months from the initial query, she got wildly rude without provocation and stated that she will not rent to us at all because we have been bothering her too much. What?!?!?! My fiance then called her back and said well since you never even processed our application, I want my application fee back. to which she had the nerve to say what makes you think I havent processed it?!?!? Seriously??? She told us she hadnt gotten to it for over a month which to me indicates she is either very bad at her job or very forgetful since she said only moments before she still had not done so but now when asking for our stuff back because she refused to accept it anyway she might have suddenly ran it through? Who does she think she is kidding? In this economy with rent prices insanely out of control and homelessness growing like weeds, how can a place supposedly trying to help stop this epidemic behave like this?? How this Maryse had led us on for SO long costing us literally thousands of dollars while we were originally led to believe we were approved (only to learn later she never even processed our app) is beyond unfair and should be worthy of a lawsuit or charges of some kind. At very least, that woman who clearly does NOT do her job should no longer be employed there at all! We understand our housing situation is not her problem BUT we were NOT calling her multiple times a day or anything. We called once a week usually when she suggested we check back so how can she later say she wont rent to us because we are too impatient?!?!?! 5 thousand dollars later (which we are in debt for as we have been dangling on this particular thread based on lies from their office) and doing what this Maryse SAID to do only to punish us for following HER directions?!?! unbelievable for sure.

Desired Outcome

I firmly hope that this manager Maryse will be held accountable for her actions and lack thereof pertaining to her doing the job she claimed she was going to do then punished innocent people for her laziness or ineptitude. We followed instructions at great cost to us and above everything else- Maryse had NO right whatsoever to be anywhere near as rude as she was. Long before any of this I had called to inquire and even then she was so rude and unhelpful this business should absolutely reconsider her employment there. Same goes for Ashley at their Oakridge location who wasted sevral months prior to this by telling us we WERE approved and waiting to move in when ultimately we would never even be able to. Their employees do not seem to to ANYTHING while on the clock other than be rude and miserable to anyone who tries to contact them! Of all the jobs I have ever had, this kind of attitude and behavior would NEVER have been tolerated for even a minimuage job!

Applicant claims to have been waiting for 'months' for an apartment, yet didn't submit an application until late January according to the same complaint.

It is tragic that the applicant chose to rent a hotel for months but its clear from reading this and speaking with the managers referenced above that the information presented here is not the full story. However, since this is a Revdex.com complaint, I can only address the claim itself and the desired resolution...

This claim contradicts itself and has an unclear desired resolution. This is our formal response:

1. As landlords we have the right to choose who to rent to, and the applicant appears to be upset because we chose not to rent to her and her fiance. We are still refusing to rent to her, so this cannot be resolved.

2. The background check was run, so the application fee would be non-refundable if it were paid. However, I am unable to locate any record of her $25 non-refundable application fee payment, as I believe it was waived by Maryse as a gesture of goodwill. Either way, this fee would be non-refundable, which is clearly stated on the application itself - on both the top and bottom - next to the signature line.

No action is thus required and this complaint is effectively resolved.

I wish the applicant and her fiance the best of luck in finding a home.
