Dear Ms. [redacted]: Unlimited Choices® has been an Oregon 501(c)3 non-profit corporation since 1993. We provide housing rehabilitation services in multiple jurisdictions using Federal dollars to help keep people in their own homes through our Adapt-A-Home (accessibility modifications) and Mend-A Home...

(critical home repair) programs. We are able to assist about 300 households per year; our successful results are well documented, the financial savings are remarkable and our programs are award winning. We have multiple programs and each program has a set of specific criteria, policies and procedures. Although very infrequent, this client is not the first person to be disappointed by no meeting the threshold criteria. She simply does not have anything in her home that rises to the level of critical home repair. She says that she has mold in her home, however, neither the Multnomah County [redacted] Program nor ours found any evidence of it. The employee this client referenced has an exemplary record during his 8 years with the agency. He routinely receives compliments from our clients on the Satisfaction Questionnaires we send out. His previous employment was working with Portland's homeless population; he is experienced with people who are emotionally distraught, depressed, fearful and emotional. My instruction to all employees is to utilize all appropriate interpersonal skills when dealing with clients; but if the situation escalates and becomes unproductive or dangerous, they are to quietly state their intention to leave and then do so. This is only the second time in his eight year career with us that he has done so. We are sorry that this client is unhappy, but the mission of our agency and our Federal grant money are not for use in either routine home maintenance nor remodeling or otherwise upgrading a home. Her slow kitchen drain and replacing her old linoleum did not qualify.

Re: The counter complaint from Unlimited Choices Revdex.com [redacted] It is to my dismay, that Ms Brenda J[redacted], from Unlimited Choices, had composed a series of inaccurate statements and untruths pertaining to the what took place at my home: I had prayed mold remover on the surfaces where incoming mold spread (on my ceiling). Some of the spray particles fell on me. Yes, it was sprayed cleaned, but a future wind-driven rain could possibly cause mold to appear again. I have asthmatic symptoms, caused from mold to the point I have use inhalers daily, and sometimes my nebulizer kit. To remind Unlimited Choices, l did mention to Mr. Josh S[redacted], their Housing Specialist, that I had cleaned it and I also mentioned my allergic reactions to mold. Mr. S[redacted] seemed annoyed when I directed him to go outside and check the gutter. My major concern was a defect in the gutter or something else in that location. I think that I would do myself a disservice if I didn't include that I noticed that Mr. S[redacted] had a hostile demeanor, and he expected me to present him with the total list of needed repairs when he had them all written inside his business binder. I recall saying," I can't recollect every one of them, just off my head", he then opened his book and read only 3 of them, so far. Below, in the 5th paragraph, is the reason given. The situation did not "escalate and become unproductive", as Ms. J[redacted] stated. While at first I was emotionally shaken because Mr. S[redacted] told me that the outside gutter didn't appear defective, I exclaimed that "a man from [redacted] told me it is and he referred me to a couple of agencies", one being "Unlimited Choices". When we both went out to look at the gutter, I suggested he take a closer look. H is response was, "we don 't clean gutters", but I didn't ask for a cleanup. He quickly got into his car,
without a word, and took off. The reason why the situation did not escalate and become unproductivewas that I had fully cooperated with him since my initial reaction. There was no quarreling; such as a heated debate, and I certainly didn't scream at him-- that he reported to his director. I f did, I 'm sure my son would have come out of his room to see what was the matter. And, Mr. [redacted] didn't allow me the opportunity to discuss with him the other 6 needed repairs. Actually, he gave no reason for his abrupt departure. I was struck by his hasty decision to leave. I thought. 'why is he behaving this way; he's apparently upset with me, but why is he fuming after I became amendable?' As for the plumping problem, it is not a "slow'' drain! It keeps backing up and it stinks! I surmise that there could be bacteria and other pathogens surfacing, as well. Should I have to be subjected to this health hazard? I am elderly. This drain backup problem is not "routine" maintenance! I deserve better than this. It was apparent to me that Mr. S[redacted] had no compassion about "what !called, " a health hazard" as it relates to my asthma. As for replacing the linoleum, it is worn down, especially on the heavily foot-traffic areas, and there is a crack in it. I don 't know how much they gauge. The entire floor in shambles? To further complicate my situation, none of my other 6 home repairs were inspected while Mr. S[redacted] was here. I would also mention that he looked my sink drain (the plumbing problem). Why would a backed up drain not be important to him? I recall his saying," I will tell the agency and see what they say." When I called and spoke to his executive director, Brenda J [redacted] I explained just about all that transpired. She said nothing about the drain back up problem. This was the only conversation I  had with her. After I spoke to great length about the situation, she told me to write to her about what I  just told her. I replied, "but you will probably turn me down; it would be a waste of my time. You are sticking up for Mr. S[redacted] and believe in him as opposed to believing in me. She said nothing. So, what I 'd like to see resolved is that my list of requests be attended to-- whichever of them or all of them, would be qualified for prepare work by Unlimited Choices. In all honestly, I dread being exposed to Mr. S[redacted]'s repelling demeanor. I 'm supposing he won 't get over his resentments. Nonetheless. I have been stressed by all the above mentioned situations and the health hazards remain.
