Review: I recieved a bill from UPMC for an emergency room visit that I had. The bill was for my $200.00 co-pay. I made $40.00 payments every month for 3 months. I then recieved a statement from a collection agency for the remaining $80.00 balance. I called UPMC billing department and was told that since I did not call and set up a payment plan that no matter what they would have sent me to the collection agency. I do not understand this collection method. I asked the woman what payment plan they would have given me for the $200 owed and she said that it would have been set up for any payment over $15 would have been acceptable. Even though I was paying over what the payment plan would have been they still sent me to collections. They are going to damage my credit history just simply since I did not call before I started making monthly payments. I just find this practice unaceptable. I cannot comprehend that I would have to call before I start making payments. I am making good on the services provided and they treat me as if I am a common criminal who steals good and doesn't pay for them. I just do not agree with their methods. I have other accounts with UPMC for myself and other family members and I have been making payments on those accounts as well but since I have not called I guess I will be expecting more collections letters. What is my incentive to continue to make payments if they will just send if to collections no matter what.Desired Settlement: I just want to know how they can get away with this practice? I made my payemts and they still send someone to collections. How can they do that? I just find that very unlawful to ruin someones credit that actually tries to do the right thing.
