Review: On April 16, 2013, I had an antique dresser shipped to my home in Fairfax, California from The UPS Store at 800 Village Walk, Guilford, CT ([redacted], Owner, (XXX) XXX-XXXX.) Wed done business successfully before, shipping furniture and various household items cross-country without incident. Mr. [redacted] advised that the dresser might have to be shipped via a third party freight company but was hopeful he could avoid that. We discussed insurance, which I declined. Apparently that was a grave error as I was to find out. The dresser was handed over to Con-Way Freight, which is part of a major NYSE conglomerate. They promptly lost the dresser. That is where my nightmare begins. I filed a claim with Con-Way, attaching information to provide an appropriate replacement value - $1,249 - based on similar dressers at[redacted] or[redacted] They sent me a check for twenty bucks. Was this a joke or a mistake? Apparently neither. I was reminded by the Con-Way claims department in Texas, the shipping office in Santa Rosa, CA and The UPS Store in CT that I hadnt insured the piece. What I didnt realize was the consequence of NOT insuring the piece. It would be treated as used furniture, thus a bill of lading value - unknown to me - of about $0.10/lb. or twenty bucks.Ive been had, robbed. Shame on me. Buyer beware when doing business with The UPS Store and Con-Way, who conveniently hid behind their fine print, waivers and disclaimers. To say that this not acceptable is an understatement. I expect better treatment from businesses that present themselves as trustworthy. If I have to pay a price for my oversight it isnt 1.60% of my claim. I expect better treatment, even if it isnt one hundred cents on the dollar of my claim. Twenty bucks to replace an antique dresser YOU LOST is insulting no matter what I did or didnt agree to.I expect a prompt and satisfactory response before I seek further remedies.

I've submitted data on appropriate replacement value and received a check for 1.6% of that claim. Not acceptable. If I don't get one hundred cents on the dollar claim then it is certainly something more than 1.6%.
