Vehicle came into the shop on 10-16-we found the radiator leaking, *** was notified by phone we recommended replacing radiator-radiator hoses-thermostat & radiator cap, *** gave me the okto repair the vehicle, he said to me I just replaced the thermostat &
radiator cap so these parts do not need to be replaced, after repair was complete cooling fans were checked for operation and a block test performed ( standard procedure when a vehicle has been run with no coolant in engine ) block test passed and a test drive was performedInvoice # On 10-24-Customer stated engine was running hot & the check engine light was on, check engine light issue was caused by a camshaft position sensor, customer notified and approved repair. After replacing the camshaft sensor the cooling system was rechecked, run engine and check cooling fans did notice temperature gauge was above normal, radiator was drained of coolant and thermostat was removed to inspect, (we noticed that the thermostat was installed incorrectly by customer ) to eliminate the possibly of reinstalling a failed thermostat a new one was installed, coolant was reused coolingfan operation was confirmed and engine block test was performed, a new radiator cap was than installed, vehicle was test driven and customer notified. Invoice On 10-28-2014 Vehicle came into shop, customer stated engine was running hot, check coolant level (ok) run engine, check cooling fans, pressure test cooling system, did not see any leaks, pressure test coolingsystem, allow cooling system to be under pressure over night, next day system was still under pressure, rechecked for leaks, seen a few small drops of coolant on floor, confirm weep hole of water pump wet, notified customer about vehicle and replaced water pump, after repairs were done test drive performed, fans recheckedBecause this vehicle had returned for cooling system issues I felt as the owner of Uptown Automotive I would help this customer by applying a $Discount on repair and not charge him for fluids that were used in the repairInvoice#On 11-03-Vehicle was parked outside gate, customer dropped off the keys & stated engine was running hot again, coolant level was checked, fans were checked, all were found to operating normal, a block test was performed again, engine passed test, we than connected a scanner to vehicle and test drove the vehicle up to Wailuku Heights and around Wailuku & Kahului, the next day same test drive was performed, temperature reading was normal on dash instrument panel and on the scanner, spoke to customer about test drive and results, and that we could not duplicate the overheating, our labor time of 1-Hrsfor spending time on this vehicle was not charged to the customerInvoice #On 11-10-Vehicle returned to the shop with the same complaint of overheating, after removing radiator cap did notice coolant level was low, I also noticed where radiator cap connects to radiator the plastic looked overheated , pressure test cap & cooling system both checked good, perform block test, (pass) drain coolant and remove thermostat & inspect, to allow full flow of coolant through cooling system internal part of thermostat was removed, run engine and block test at least 5 times to check for possible exhaust in cooling system ( signs of a cracked head or blown head gasket ) every time tested engine passed. At that time customer was called, I explained what was done and what I suspected could be the cause of damage on the neck of the radiator, steam forming inside the radiator due to a possible head gasket or small crack on the cylinder headNo charge for checking vehicle. Invoice I understand the frustration for the owner of this vehicle, the overheating that the customer states on this vehicle has nothing to do with the repairs that were performed by Uptown Automotive, the vehicle came in for coolant leaks these leaks were repairedOn the last inspection of this vehicle based on what the radiator looked like I suspected there may be a crack in the cylinder head or a possible blown head gasket, usually these condition show up on a block test, Keep in mind this vehicle never once overheated for us at any time, One thing we don't know is how long this vehicle was driven with this radiator leaking before it came to Uptown Automotive and why the customer just replaced the thermostat before it cameto us, ( perhaps overheating )I also told the customer he should have a second opinion about this condition since the vehicle continued passing the block test & never ran hot for us, after reading the complaint letter submitted to me I will go to the *** *** and speak to the mechanic to stated this was caused by Uptown Automotive
