I paid USAP on 3/022/2020 for anesthesia services rendered on 1/7/2020. I paid them thru CARECredit and have the proof of payment from Care Credit. After numerous calls to USAP and CareCredit, and after sending proof of payment to USAP via email on 4/30/2020, I continue to get past due notices from USAP. They refuse to contact CareCredit and visa versa. I sent them REf numbers and codes from CareCredit. I am stuck in the middle. Neither company will work with me.

Thank you for your inquiry. The patient’s
account has been reviewed at length. It is
accurate that the patient made payment for anesthesia services through Care Credit, but there was a
delay in posting the payment to the account as a result of an internal error. The customer service team did escalate the patient's inquiry per internal protocol and the account was under review, but, due to timing, the patient did receive a subsequent statement. We have mailed the patient a receipt of payment and will follow-up directly to ensure that the patient is satisfied with resolution. The balance has now been resolved
according to the patient’s request by the acknowledgement of payment and
receipt of payment, in writing, from USAP. The internal error has been remediated in order to prevent any concerns of this nature in the future. We appreciate the patient's diligence in addressing her concerns, and hope that this resolution is to her satisfaction.

I was a patient who received anesthesia services relating to surgery at ***. I am a self-pay patient and was given an estimate for all services prior to the procedure. The estimate states the payments for the hospital, anesthesia, and surgeon must all be pre-paid. When I attended the pre-op appointment I paid the hospital estimate of $7,000 and surgeon’s estimate of $3,989 on the spot. When I asked about the anesthesia estimate, I was told they would bill me separately. The estimate for anesthesia was $800 with an additional $110 per hour after the first hour. The first bill we received in the mail was in November 2018. US Anesthesia claims they sent e-mails prior to the mailed billing but those were never received and we believe they were sent to to an incorrect e-mail address. The bill we received in the mail was for a total of $3,800. Since the surgical procedure lasted for approximately 90 minutes, we were expecting a bill from USAP of around $855. When we called on Jan 24 2019 to investigate, we were told they would check and call us back the next day. We called again today and were told payment was expected prior to service but they would give us a 60% discount which still amounts to double the estimate. We would have been happy to pay the bill in advance had anyone asked for it.

Thank you for your inquiry. The patient’s account has been reviewed at length. The findings are as follows: the account presented without insurance, and the case was processed as a standard self pay account. It is accurate that we do have a relationship with the surgeon’s office in this case which would allow for a negotiated flat rate if the applicable services are prepaid. The surgeon’s office provides all communication and prepayment requirements to each patient. A prepayment was not received for this account. The patient was billed full charges, and received statements, calls, and letters through the normal course of business. Following this inquiry, we did reach out to the patient. The patient spoke with USAP-Colorado billing leadership today, and the balance has now been resolved to the patient’s satisfaction.
