I paid USA Insulation a $500 deposit to have some walls insulated in my home. After they cashed my check in May they took two months to give me a date for the installation. By that time it was mid July and my dog who suffers from Grade IV tracheal collapse was having difficulty breathing due to the heat and pollen. She had a major attack the night before my appointment with USA Insulation and was taken to the emergency room. I cancelled the appointment immediately.
Part of her management along with medication is to control her environment and improve the air quality inside my home. I decided the dry wall dust that would be created wasn't worth the risk and called USA Insulation a few days later to tell them I wouldn't be rescheduling. I asked for my deposit back and was sent this response via text:

"When I came to our first appointment and you were not home, I didn't get paid, when I came back and spent a good deal of time with you trying to figure out what was going on with your home, I didn't get paid. When I meet with dustin reviewing and tring to come up with a plan. I didnt get paid. When I took off the morning of your install so I could be there to make sure we nailed your project, I didnt get work. I spent a couple hours putting a detailed work order together with all the Measurements and diagrams, thermal image pictures so that we would be able to do a good job over there for you and now I won't get paid anything because your just gonna cancel on us. Im not trying to be complacated but if you do that, I will have lost my shirt over this. I will have done everything for nothing. "

I work in sales too, so I understand that sometimes you go on appointments and don't get the business. But I don't think that they spent $500 worth of time deciding where to drill holes in my walls.

The customer signed a contract on 5/23. We spoke with the customer to schedule her install on 6/17. This was only 3 weeks later, not 2 months. We have a recording of the call on file. Her install was scheduled for 7/11, which again was less than 2 months after she signed the contract. She confirmed the install with us on 7/10. (recorded call available) She then called after hours on 7/10 to cancel. She was well out of rescission. We have spent more than $500 at this point. We are more than willing to apply the deposit to a future project.

USA Insulation:

In preparation for your company coming out to insulate, I had a wall cut open so that you could insulate the chimney chase. Once I cancelled the job with you, I had the fireplace company come to inspect the fire stop and close the wall. The owner of the company told me it would have been illegal for you to insulate that space.

Then I just read on Consumer Reports about the poor guy who had his roof insulated by your company. You didn't leave any space for air flow and he developed mold. Your company didn't fix the problem you created.

Why was my salesman taking the morning off to be here when they did the job? I greatly appreciate it, but why did he think it was necessary? From what I have read you have done major damage to peoples homes.

From what I have now read on this website and other blogs, I got off easy just losing a $500 deposit.

My dog getting sick had a silver lining!

No way did you do $500 worth of work preparing for my job, but it's OK. Keep it. I'll be sure to spread the word on my experience with USA Insulation.

We had our home insulated over the summer. At the time the sales representative and installers were polite, timely and communicative. As we transitioned into winter we started having problems. First, our bathroom was very cold. Then we started having pipes freeze. Our sink and toilet stopped working on cold days and started working again when the weather warmed. We called and left messages for weeks without reply. It took more than 4 weeks to get a return call. Another 2 weeks for someone to come “diagnose” the problem. It was quickly apparent that the install was not done correctly, parts of the home were missed or under insulated. The soonest they could get someone out to address the issue was 2 more weeks. On the scheduled repair day our appointment was cancelled due to cold weather after the appointment window and scheduled for the next week. The next week came and after the appointment window someone showed up without the equipment to make the repair. After another round of calling everyday we sill do not have an appointment for repairs. We have dozens of phone call to USA Insulation without response. Justin, the project manager has never in 2+ months returned a call, despite the office workers ensuring us he would call “by the end of day”. We have had freezing pipes and non-functioning Plumbing for 2+ months without any resolution in sight. It appears they were happy to take our money, but have no intention of following through with doing the job right. I would not recommend anyone use this company. We were sold on third party financing so we could take advantage of 0% APR, but know we have no recourse to seek financial restitution.

We have had several communications with both Mr. and Mrs.. Prior to this complaint, we had arranged with Mrs. an appointment for the next day (1/16) to re-address their issue. We have explained that there is a vanity covering their heating vent in the area of question. We have asked them to move the vanity to check for blockage. Removal of this vanity is not a difficult task, as the area is in process of being remodeled and currently has a plywood counter top. We offered to move it while we were there to show them this is not the issue, and the customer(s) would not allow us to.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Everything in the response is true. However, USA insulation failed to mention the improper/inadequate installation and subsequent freezing of our bathroom plumbing supply lines. We are unwilling to start tearing apart the bathroom by removing the vanity, which did not have to be moved for the installation, until the installation problems are fixed in other areas more proximal to the freezing plumbing. To date we have had intermittent freezing for over 2 months. The "multiple" conversations were had after weeks of us calling without response from anyone able to address the problem. It was only after filing a complaint that USA Insulation started to respond in an adequate manner. As of now USA Insulation has come back out and added insulation. All of the insulation was blown-in not foam, which is what we paid for. If we wanted loose insulation we could have saved considerable amounts of money and had that put in instead. Since the repairs it has not been cold enough to verify that the problem has been addressed. We will not be able to verify that the problem is fixed until we have sustained temperatures below 10 degrees F. Further USA Insulation stated they would come back and provide another thermal scan to see if there were any spots that needed more insulation. It has been 3 weeks since that was suppose to happen without any update from USA Insulation. This is a typical delay and avoid tactic that we have been dealing with for months. It appears they hope that we will loose interest and stop following up. In the 3 months we have been trying to get this addressed USA Insulation has and continues to fail to follow up on scheduled appointments, return phone calls and address the underlying problem. If they were interested in addressing the issue it could have been done months ago. We will not incur any cost or damage to our home until they have addressed the installation problems and there are no other options. Based on the weeks it takes to get an appointment or returned phone call, I can not see letting them remove the vanity in our bathroom to have it sit there for weeks, rendering our bathroom unusable while we wait for them to decide they have time to address the problem.

Regards

From the beginning there has been a lot of confusion about dates, length of time passed and the actual issues in this matter.

On review of our records (including recorded phone calls) following is what has happened:

11/28 Original call from ***: she stated everything was perfect, except a closet was cold.

12/04 Second call stating that they had closets that were cold.

12/08 We scheduled a service date of 12/18 to come take a look at the cold closet(s).

12/14 Mrs. called to make sure that we were bringing a thermal gun.

12/15 Mrs. called and said that they had a pipe freeze and wanted us out immediately. Mr. also called shortly after threatening us to get us to respond more urgently. *This is the first report of any freezing pipe issue

12/18 Mrs. called to check time of arrival.

12/18 – We investigated the concern of the front closet freezing and the additional complaint of a freezing pipe. There was an area that needed touched up from the initial install. There was also a plumbing chase and front porch roof that we determined could accept “blown in” insulation. This is not an inferior product. The foam is designed to work inside of typical vertical wall cavity. These areas are not areas that can be insulated with foam. This was additional work beyond our contract to try and remedy the concerns of the customer.

It was also determined that there was a lack of heat to the bathroom due to the make-shift plywood vanity being placed over top of the heat duct, not allowing any heat to enter the room. We noted this on the service ticket, also indicating that the heat was on the interior wall. We only did work on the exterior walls. There is no way that the foam is causing the blockage of the heat register.

Original repair date scheduled 01/02.

01/02 We canceled due to weather. All jobs were postponed for this entire week due to subzero temps. Rescheduled to 01/09 for repair.

01/09 We arrived for repairs and the customer was not home.

01/11 Mrs. called about results of appointment.

01/12 A follow up appointment was scheduled for 01/16, Mrs. agreed they were not home at last appointment, but would be this time.

The initial complaint was file with the Revdex.com on 01/14 (after the appointment was already scheduled for repairs)

01/16 Our Production Manager was also with the crew to address the issues. We checked the contracted work and performed the repairs needed. We also discussed the heat register being blocked by the make-shift plywood vanity, and offered to remove it to prove the foam was not blocking it. The customer refused to let us move it, and said that they would move it. (Moving the vanity would have been rather simple, only requiring removal of a couple screws, and would have been put back as soon as we could visually inspect the foam was not the issue.) We left with the understanding that they would contact us once they removed the vanity and proved that the foam was causing the issue.

Since the last visit on 01/16, they have not responded regarding the heat duct/vanity.

***The total length of time from the initial call from the ***’s on 11/28, until the additional repairs were made on 01/16 was 7 weeks, not the 3 months the customer is claiming.

Had foam insulation and atic insulation done on house in April of 2017, in August of 2017 we had new siding put on house, after removing the old siding it was noticed that spots were missed with insulation, USA insulation came out and fixed that issue. In November of 2017 after removing walls for remodeling it was noticed that most of the foam insulation had shrank ( which is stated that it does not shrink ) upon calling the company and getting the runaround for over a month and a half the company does not seem to care

USA Enterprises Response

We installed insulation in The *** home on 4/7/17. We were out for service calls 3 times since then. We spoke with Mr. a couple times in the last week to schedule a date to come out to fix additional concerns, and he would not schedule the appointment. He stated that he would be out of town in the January, but did not know when and couldn’t schedule an appointment.

Revdex.com:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Their response is incorrect. They came out twice after the initial instalation. Once to fill in places they missed and after numerous phone calls from us, they came out to do a thermal imaging.

ThThey have cost me time and money. They blocked air returns and damaged my pipes. It takes them way to long to respond to phone calls.

I paid 7,000.00 for their service...I feel very taken advantage of. Their product and service are not worth the inflated price.
