My (college) student received a threatening debt collection notice claiming they had an 'open and still owing' account. It instructed the recipient to go to their online paycenter and listed the (never before seen) account # & PIN # to make the multi-hundred principal amount as well as >$30 interest charge. The notice stated the recipient would continue to accrue interest 'at the rate allowed by law'. I suspected that (at best) this was a heavy handed lagit debt collection service... but my student (nor I) had never been billed for the creditor's (unspecified) services... and have never been delinquent on medical payments owed. Thus, I am left to believe the worst-case scenario - that this is not a legit company's performing true & legal services. When I navigated to their .com/paycenter URL... and entered the 'account' and PIN #, there was another page showing the 'charges' but containing no specific reference to any medical claim. Needless to say... I have not paid, and will simply wait it out to see if anything else 'appears'.

This is a fraudulent company, that sent a fraudulent letter claiming I owe money for hospital services I did not receive, on dates when I was not receiving treatment at said hospital.

Having spoken to the physician's billing department, the hospital billing department as well as the collections department, all three have verified that I have no balance on either of the above mentioned accounts.

These is called me on my cell phone. Claimed they are a collections agency and that I owed someone money. I asked who, and they wouldn't tell me. I asked how much and they wouldn't tell me. They just kept asking for my information, which when someone calls me I do not know and starts asking for my date of birth, SSN, address, etc., I am usually pretty sure it is a scam.

Tell them to send you whatever they have in writing, to their address with you on file. Then say please no longer call and only contact you in writing. If they continue to call, you can file an easy lawsuit against them and win $500-$1,000, more if they take any stupid actions beyond harassment.

I know I don't owe anyone any money, it's laughable at my level of net worth to think I have this issue. This is a total scam.
