This complaint was resolved on July 1st with [redacted] (UTI housing partner )agreeing to refund the 549.00 back to the student’s credit card. [redacted] was scheduled to start at

MMI on 06-23-14 and had secured his housing through [redacted]. He paid his application fee and service fee along...

with 549.00 for his first month’s rent.  Due to scheduling conflicts [redacted] was not able to attend the [redacted] Move –In Orientation on Thursday June 12th, but did meet with [redacted] on June 17th to sign his lease and pick up his keys.  [redacted] never moved in and did not start school.  He moved to Eloy, AZ from Cali and was hoping to get a transfer to Phx for his job with [redacted]; he is a welder by trade. The transfer did not happen and his wife got laid off creating a financial burden.  He first requested the funds be held until December, but found himself in a financial bind so he asked for a refund of rent only; [redacted] originally denied his request per policy.  On June 30th UTI MMI staff reached out to [redacted] for more detail and then to the [redacted] representative. On July 1st [redacted] approved the 549.00 to be refunded.  UTI staff have spoken to [redacted] on several occasions and he did receive his refund and is extremely happy; he will start in December.

Review: First of all I'm a Veteran and wanted to further my education by attending Universal Technical Institute MMI-Phoenix and learn how to fix motorcycles and specialize in [redacted]'s. I was schedule to start school on June 23, 2014 however the orientation for housing and other services was on June 12, 2014 I told them that I was not going to be able to attend that orientation because that was the day of my daughter graduation from high school. So I was told that I could go on the 17th of June 2014 which I did. After orientation on financial aid, veteran services and other things I went to housing and talk with [redacted] and she explain to me the housing rules and what it was expect it from me. Then I pay $549.00 including a security deposit for the unit that I was going to live, however due to financial difficulties I was unable to move into the apartment and I let the school known of my situation first thing in the morning on 23 June 2014. I talk with my financial adviser [redacted] and with my VA adviser [redacted] then I went to housing and talk with [redacted] and at no point she say that I was not going to get back my $549.00 she mentioned that the app fee $50.00 and service fee $180.00 were non-refundable but she never say that the $549.00 was non-refundable. [redacted] is the person who told me that I have forfeit my $549.00 before this she would always answer the phone now all I get is the answer machine this is her number: ###-###-####Desired Settlement: All I want is a refund for $549.00 for services that I never use.

I attended MMI from 2005-2007 in Phoenix. I completed the Harley technician program. When I signed up to go to school. I was currently working for a Harley Dealer already told me by going to school I would make good money and they offer job placement to all graduates and that I could get financial aid. When I started school I was approved for financial aid and after my tuition was paid I was expecting to receive some money from my aid to buy school supplies and help with food, gas. But no I didn't receive no money from my aid. School rushes you through everything and if your session runs on one with a holiday get ready to lose valuable time for learning and doing your tasks in the shop you need for your PHD's. By the time I graduated and I graduated with good grades and attendance. I was severely in debt. Jobs are available but at least 600-1000 miles away from my home town and family and they all start barely over minimum wage. And my friends boyfriend used to work for them. They are a predatory for profit college. He used to tell me they had a quote every month to make on recruiting students to sign up and how he was told to get them to believe they will be making a lot of money when they get out. Shame on them, I do work in the Powersports industry and I love my job but I know I will never be rich probably living pay check to pay check. And it's funny to hear other powersports owners and service managers how they refuse to hire anyone who comes out of MMI anymore because they don't know basic stuff. Maybe MMI should quit trying to pump so many people out of their school for money and really start training future mechanics correctly and not let any guy or girl just ride through and graduate so they can collect money on them.
