Vacation Resorts International Inc Reviews (2)

Review: Unreasonable and excessive delay in replying to title transfers request. Our timeshare was current in all membership dues in August of 2013, we filed an exchange of title with paperwork and money at the end of August and first of September. VRI was contacted October 14, 2013, on Dec. 18, 2013 and January 15,2014. They failed to respond. Received letter Feb. 21, 2014 for $100.00 more to change title. Funds were sent in September 2013 for this exchange. We then received a letter dated March 12, 2014 for membership due of $984.51 with collections fees to total $1413.31. The new membership fees were not due until January 2014 , this is why we traded in August 2013.

VRI failure to reply , respond or follow through resulted in them claiming we owed another year of fees plus collection charges.

We have sent them by certified mail payment THAT WE DID NOT OWE, just to be done with them. To date September 12, 2014 they have still not cashed the check or responded, and we have not received our certified notice back sent Aug. 20, 2014. We have called and emailed to no avail. We did everything in a timely manner, yet they have failed to respond.

We believe that this bad business practices that nets them undue membership fees from everyone trying to exchange one of their properties in the proper manner.Desired Settlement: We want VRI to complete the paperwork for the title exchange, and mail it to us. We want all collections fees removed from our account. We believe that we never should have had to pay the 2014 membership due and would like a refund because it was never due in August, September, October, November and December of 2013.

Response:

Hi Ms. [redacted],

I’d like to apologize for the delay in response, however, I just received the letter regarding this complaint this week due to our office relocating.

VRI has been in communication with this customer since early 2014 based on our records regarding their transfer request. We have received multiple documents that were prepared incorrectly. VRI cannot update our records until such time as all documents are prepared and recorded correctly. Our representative communicated with their escrow company last week and explained what was needed. They have advised that they would correct the documents and send them to us for updating our records.

These owners were mailed four notices regarding their maintenance fees beginning with the first notice on October 17, 2013, prior to be submitted to collections. The letter dated March 12, 2014 was the third of the four that were sent. On April 14th, the fourth letter was sent giving the owners 30 days to pay in full or their account would be submitted to collections per the resorts assessment, billing and collection policy. On May 28th, the account was submitted to collections. We have yet to receive any payment as they mention. I have pulled the account from collections and am removing all bad credit reporting from their credit. This process is done on the first of each month, therefor, it will be updated on November 1st, 2014.

The 2014 maintenance fees are delinquent. We will reach out to the owners and escrow company in an effort to settle the account for 2014 while we wait for the proper documentation to update our system.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID[redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I was not able to respond within the seven days due to travels. However upon reviewing this reply there are a few things that do not ring correct with me.

If these letters they state were sent, they must have been sent to the second party that was hired to do the title transfer back in August of 2013. We provided the money request and the signed documents with in the time that we were asked in August and September of 2013.

Review: We purchased a time share about 20 years ago titled Multi Resort Ownership. VRI took over the management for MROP. Since they took over the timeshare fees have doubled. In 2010 I inquired about what I had to do to get out of the time share which was then managed in Salt Lake City, Ut. I was told that I had to have the dues paid and it would cost an additional fee of around $180.00 and I would lose all of the points that I had. I decided to try to use the points and get out at a later date Since this company took over and I have seen the fees go up I called to cancel the time share on March 18,2015 and was told that it would cost me now $1500. to cancel the contract. I have never been notified of this change and this is not what I signed up for years ago. It seems to me that this is not right to just arbitrarily come up with such an exorbitant cancellation fee, especially since we don't have a deed to any property or anything like that. I question them and told them I thought it was unfair but they just said that is the way it is now since they took over from the Salt Lake Office. I would appreciate some help with this, it does not seem like it is legal for them to just all of a sudden decide to charge these fees.Desired Settlement: I would like to cancel this time share and pay the dues for the year and the fee that I was told earlier by the Salt Lake Branch of this business.

RE: [redacted]. [redacted] -ID #[redacted]Dear Ms. [redacted]:Vacation Resorts International (VRI) is in receipt of your letter in regardsto the above captioned complaint filed by Mr. [redacted]. VRI is aprofessional timeshare management company contracted by the MultiResort Ownership Plan, Inc. (MROP). MROP is a non-profit UtahCorporation which administers right to use memberships in a vacationclub. Mr. [redacted] owns a membership in MROP. VRI reports to the MROPBoard of Trustees and implements the policies and procedures of MROP.VRI is responding on behalf, and at the request, of MROP.MROP offers its owners the ability to sign their memberships back to MROP thru an Exit Program. The terms of the Exit program are intended to be simple and straightforward. If a MROP member desires totP.rminate their membership they must: (1) be current in all of themaintenance fees, (2) sign a termination/assignment form that assignstheir membership back to MROP; and (3) pay an exit fee of $1,500. Thepurpose of the Exit Program is to allow members to leave the timeshareprogram while maintaining the integrity of MROP's operating budget forthe remaining members. MROP is a non-profit homeowners association. If members do not pay their maintenance fees, MROP is unable to meet itsfinancial obligations. The Exit Program fee was set at $1,500 as that isapproximately two (2) years maintenance fees. This allows MROP tomeet its obligations in the current fiscal year and have time to sell themembership and retain a new owner to help meet future financialobligations. The Exit Program described above has been in effect since July 26, 2011.The MROP Board of Trustees is elected by its members to set and enforcethe policies and procedures of the Association. If Mr. [redacted] would like to relinquish ownership of his week, he will need to comply withthe Board's policy. He can contact the VRI Inventory Control Department at [redacted]for the necessary paperwork. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.SincerelyVACATION RESORTS INTERNATIONAL[redacted]Director of Resort Operations

[Provide details of why you are not satisfied with this resolution. Please respond in this space ONLY]

I have owned this time share since 1995. When I purchased the time share the exit fee was less than $200. She states that it has been $1500 since 2011, however, I was not notified of this change, and had I been informed of this change I would have turned in my weeks under the old policy. I think that it is not fair to put through changes without proper notification and an opportunity to abide by the rules that were governing the time share when I purchased it. I have noticed also since VRI has taken over the management of the time share the dues have almost doubled.
