I was in need of a plumber to do some minor work at my home. I strongly believe his total bill to be highly excessive for parts and labor.Mr. [redacted] XXXXX [redacted] 2015RE: Plumbing billDear Mr. [redacted],This letter is regarding the bill you sent me for plumbing work. I find the charges for both your labor and parts to be highly excessive. I spoke to you about the check for [redacted] my roommate, [redacted], gave you on [redacted] where you left no detailed list of the work or your labor, all you mentioned was you'd send out a detailed bill.Here are the facts:1. I called you on [redacted] 5/21/15 about my sump pump constantly, it was about 10 years old. You said sounds like it's gone and needs a new one, that you could be out to my home tomorrow, [redacted] at [redacted] or after to check the pump and replace it. I asked you what your service charge is for that or hourly rate. You stated no charge just to come out that I'll only bill when I begin the replacement.2. [redacted] at [redacted] my roommate, [redacted] met you and only there for 15 mins total time, took numbers from pump, and also looked at hot water heater where water dripping from emergency valve. You stated you'll call the plumbing store about getting a SP that's compatible w/my sump pump backup battery, and call us back. You stated the issue with the hot water heater was the expansion tank, stated to my roommate as well as me later on the phone that a new expansion tank would be between [redacted] You called us back in about 30 mins from leaving my home, left a voice mail stating you cannot find a sump pump compatible with the backup battery, to let you know what we want to do. I called you back at [redacted] asking cost of the new 1/3 hp pump would be only and you said [redacted] I told you to get that pump and you stated you'd be out the next morning Saturday to replace it between X:XX-XX:XXAM. Total labor time should've been 1 hour. Total amount should've been charged that day [redacted]3. [redacted] you arrived at [redacted] AM with the new sump pump. I informed you that my toilet in basement was acting up. You stated get some colored dye and try a test. I worked with you that whole hour you were at my home. I got you my ladder which you needed. I also found the flapper to not work in that toilet, and I swapped out 2 from you to see if they worked. You found toilet tank to be cracked, when I asked how much for a new toilet tank you stated [redacted] and you'd be out Tuesday morning at [redacted] or after to replace the tank, replace expansion for hot water heater, and add sump pump check valve (cost [redacted] I asked you again what is your hourly or flat rate; you again would not answer specifically to that just that it won't be that much. You left at 11:00 AM. Total labor time should have been 1.5 hours (1 hour at my home and ½ hr to get part). Total amount should've been charged that day: [redacted] for sump pump + [redacted] (1.5 hr labor) = [redacted]4. [redacted] you arrived at [redacted] replaced the toilet tank, expansion tank, and added the sump pump check valve. You were done by [redacted] Total time should have been billed 2 hours ( 1.5 hours worked at my home and ½ hr to get parts).
