The reality of the situation is that some of clients’ animals may or may not have fleas Pet owners bring their pets to events for vaccinations, microchips, heartworm prevention, as well as, flea treatment and prevention The very nature of the outdoors environment of South Texas exposes people and pets to the prevalent flea problem which is spread by, but not limited to, dogs, cats, squirrels, raccoons, people (fleas on clothing), etc Even pets that live in apartments, single pet residences, etc go outside to urinate and defecate They are also exposed to owners who travel outside a controlled environment and risk bringing fleas back home on their clothing The reality of the flea problem in South Texas is that fleas don’t discriminate! They can be found in every part of town, in apartments and even in gated communities This is especially true with the recent rainfalls that stimulate the hatching of flea eggs and only exacerbate the problem Even in traditional brick and mortar veterinary hospitals, it is unreasonable to think that not a single pet may have fleas Treating pets with fleas is part of our mission as veterinarians Much like going to your own doctor’s office, some people may be ill and expose others Despite the reasonable precautions that all practitioners take some people may be sick that walk through the door and expose others We regret that one of our customers felt like her pet was unduly exposed to fleas Similarly, we regret that we are unable to control all the environmental factors at our drives In regards to the desired settlement, we would consider a gift certificate for use towards future services should the client be so inclined Sincerely, [redacted]
