Vantage Properties Reviews (1)

Review: I moved into the [redacted]. (Washington Heights) property when they still owned it. I was never informed that they sold my building to another company. Almost 5 months later and I still have no idea who owns the building now. My apartment was in decent shape when I moved in, but there was one big problem: the people above me were letting their air conditioner drain INTO their apartment. First of all, that's digusting. And second of all, the air conditioner "sweat" was dripping through the hardwood floors. It eventually created a smelly, soggy, brown spot in the corner of my apartment ceiling. Mold began to grow, and not to pull the "allergies" card, but I am incredibly allergic to mold. That's probably the only thing I'm allergic to and of course it had to start growing in the apartment because of this moist nature of the ceiling. The super (who barely spoke English) did nothing but come and look at it and say, "Wow." He said he would tell the people above me to fix it, but that did not work. I had him come back once more after the situation got worse. He once again vowed to tell them to fix it, but they never did. It wasn't until I took photos and wrote a letter and sent them to Vantage that they responded. Some manager came over to look at it, and when she went to the upstairs neighbor, they fixed their a/c. The super came to fix my ceiling the next day. Strange that all it took was a manager to come over to make the super do his job. Toward the end of my stay at the apartment, my buzzer broke. The super said he would take a look at it. When he did, he said he could not fix it. He needed assistance and assured me someone would be at the apartment the next day. I took time off of work and the person never showed up. I finally called the super who replied, "Oh yeah, he couldn't make it today. Sorry." He then encouraged me to just leave the buzzer broken and hopefully no one would notice. When I asked if the repair fee would be taken out of my deposit, he responded, "Yeah, probably." REALLY? I made sure to send this information to Vantage in a letter. He also assured me he could take out my second lock, but alas, he couldn't do that, either. I just left it. I couldn't take it anymore. As of today, I have not gotten my deposit back. It is September **, 2013 and I vacated the apartment in May. Vantage does not answer their phone (does anyone even work there?), they do not respond voicemails (it says they respond in one business day- what a joke), and they do not respond to e-mails. At this point, I'm not sure when or if I will ever get the deposit back, or if I will ever figure out who ended up buying the building.Desired Settlement: I just want to get my security deposit back.
