To whom It May Concern:On September 25, 2013, the customer [redacted] signed a contract with VAR Construction, Inc. for work to be performed on his roof.We at VAR Construction, Inc., complied, with the work that was agreed upon in the contract and all work was completed on September 26, 2013.The customer is stating that the main issue was the scupper box, however the scupper box was not included in our contract as something to be repaired; please see the attached invoice.VAR Construction, Inc. stands behind its work and guarantees the work that was included in the contract. The work that we performed does not appear to be the underlying issue here.  The customer is implying that the problem is the scupper box, again that was not part of the contract.Thank you for your help in this matter.Vince R -Owner

 Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
I was scammed by var construction and was treated poorly during my complaint process. When Var Construction came to my house September of 2013 I spoke to them about fixing a leak I had in my bathroom. My bathroom is located in the back top corner of my house. I showed were the leak was and that another contractor had told me it was this box that was poorly sealed in the back corner of my house and that I needed a new scupper box. Ed from Var construction explained to me that I needed a brand new roof. I explained to him that my roof was only 3 years old if it could be the other things we had discussed. He said absolutely not a new roof would take care of the leak. I was also told by Ed that the roof came with a 10 year warranty and if I still had a leak it would be covered. The installation of the roof did include a new scupper box though. I paid them half upfront and finished payment after the job was complete. I was told I would receive pictures of the completed roof since I am afraid of heights and would not be able to get on my roof. I called multiple times and never received any pictures of work completed. In February of 2014 the leak started again in the same place. It took two weeks of calling multiple times a day just to get someone out to look at it. Ed finally came out and explained to me that he had left his employees unsupervised and they never graduated the roof correctly to the gutter and they never put a new scupper box in. He finally came out a week later (now three weeks after the problem had started again) and completed the job. Now in July of 2014 I felt everything should be dry, so I went to fix the hole above my tub when tiles started falling off the wall. I started investigating and everything behind the wall was wet. I had to strip and demo my entire shower and bath area. Upon the next rain, water started to run down my interior wall. This next day I went to the office and met the owners daughter who said that they would take care of it imediately. This led to a very aggressive phone call from the owner Vince. He explained loudly and aggressively that the roof was fine, I don't know anything about roofing that it is the back wall or something else. I said to him that I asked for a leak to be fixed and it is not fixed and I was told a new roof was the only option to fix it. He continued to argue with me. Finally after two days of arguementative phone calls he sent Ed and two other gentleman out. Now the leak could be the box or the wall or the gutter or my neighbors roof I was told. I asked why none of this was brought to my attention before and why a roof was 100% the only option the first time. I was again told I know nothing about roofing and leaks are complicated. I just received a lot of excuses. I spoke with the owner later that day and basically they would not fix the leak with out more payment. I had a different company come out and give me a quote on what needed to be done. The new company told me that the one side of the scupper box was not even caulked and completely open to the inside. He caulked it for me. I then built up the courage and bought a ladder and went on the roof. What I saw was an opening at the corner of the box I had explained to Ed almost a year earler might be the problem. I bought EPDM rubber roofing tape and calmed my nerves and sealed up the box. Multiple bad rainstorms since and no water. I guess in the end I actually knew more about roofing than the owner of Var Construction. It cost $159 for the ladder and $16 for the tape. A grand total of $175 to fix the leak, they charged me $1700 for a new roof. I understand I signed a contract, but a new roof is what a Revdex.com backed company told me was the only solution, so I trusted them. At this point I would just like a refund and move on from this mess.
