Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2016/05/16) */
Contact Name and Title: Jay V[redacted] owner
Contact Phone: [redacted]
Contact Email: [redacted]@aol.com
This is the first I have heard of this. The email that Mr. [redacted] is using has not been in use for several years. Mr. [redacted] has my...

personal cell number and office number which I have had for the last 20 years. When he was not able to contact me via email why did he not call those numbers. I have not heard from Mr. [redacted] since he paid me on 4/11 when he shook my hand and thanked me the good job we did. I am not sure where the coupon is from but I have not run a coupon promotion like that in several years, if there is a coupon on the internet for that offer currently I am not aware of it and do not authorize it. I did not force Mr. [redacted] to pay me, he asked me to come back tommorow because he was in a hurry . I said I would but I would rather not drive all the way to his home if I did not have to, as it is a bit out of the way. He came out as we where cleaning up with his check book and paid me, I was very greatful. With the exception of the fire pit and overspray on a tree he appeared to be satisfied. Their home looks 100 times better than it did. We do not use gasoline to clean with, my lead man did run water through his sprayer that was mixed with paint into the fire pit. I thought it was thinner I did not physcially examine the smell to determine what it was. I did however apologize and offer to dig it out. We have killed more shrubs over the years by covering them and forgetting to uncover them than from over spray. Like I told Mr. [redacted] I would be happy to replace the tree(1 to 2ft tall) if it dies. My men covered the foundation with tape and plastic prior to painting. They also covered the jeep with plastic and uncovered it when they where finished. Some one had started the job before we started, there was paint or stain on the foundation before we started just like there is on most homes, there could have been paint on the jeep as well. If there was excess paint on anything why didn't he point it out when he inspected the job. He could have checked it out the following morning and contacted the office or even stopped payment on the check. Instead he has chosen to take this route. As for the $138.00 it was for a paint color his wife chose that they did not use. He kept the paint, he can do what he wants with it. I have been to the [redacted]'s home several times over the last several years to look at this project. I told them that their home needed to be painted with solid stain in order for it to look uniform. They chose to go with semi-transparent stain and tried to do it themselves with the help of an uncle. We where hired to come in and salvage the job they already started. I would invite you to visit their home to take a look at the job and see for your self the extent of the damage they are speaking of. In 20 years of business this is only the second complaint I have ever had filed. Both have been trying to help people who started jobs that they could finish or started incorrectly. Best regards, Jay V[redacted]
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 11, 2016/05/23) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The very context of Mr. V[redacted]'s response is the reason why I chose not to further negotiate pricing while he was at my home or contact him afterwards. I will note the items in Mr. V[redacted]'s response that are inaccurate and try to correlate them with the response as much as possible.
-I used the email address that is currently on his active website www.greensboroncpainters.com. I have a time stamped screenshot as evidence.
-I chose not to call because lack of response experienced during the term of service in addition to his lack of concern.
-The coupon is currently on V[redacted] Painting's active website www.greensboroncpainters.com as was it there when I called to redeem prior to the job. Again, I was never told that the coupon was out of date. I was told that I could not use it. I have a time stamped screenshot as evidence. Authorized or not, it's advertised on the website as "ANY Job".
-After it was apparent that Mr. V[redacted] had no intention of making things right, and I had a little league game to coach in 15 minutes, I did pay him, but it was done just to get them away from my property. I'd had enough of being lied to. Also, I had called (and text) him earlier that day so I could meet him there. He left me a message stating that he was at an appointment at the time. I text him back the request to give me 30 minutes notice so I could leave work and meet him there. That never happened and it put me in a tough situation.
-I had two choices when I spoke with Mr. V[redacted]; be a good example in front of my family (we were leaving for a game so they were outside) or be a bad example. Although it may not have been the best financial decision I've ever made, I chose to be the good example.

-They did use gasoline to clean their equipment. With 20 years as an automotive/diesel technician experience, I more than know the smell of gasoline. Whether he knows/admits it or not, they use it, and poured in in my fire pit. And to further note, that stain does not clean up with water.
-The house looks good, but not 100%. If his pressure washing crew would have done the job to the customer's expectations (and I did call and express my concern), then I might buy the 100% remark.
-Covering things. They did not cover one single item. My wife was there the majority of the time. His statement is a blatant lie. The "shrub" is actual a 4'5" tall dwarf spruce. There was no tape or plastic applied to the foundation or my Jeep for that matter. To even suggest that this damage was done before his crew started working is an absolute insult to my character. I pointed out everything but the Jeep while Jay was on site. The Jeep is red and had pollen on the windshield. I did not notice it until I used the windshield washer the day after the crew left. Again, as you can see, it would have done nothing to call.
-The $138.00 is not an issue. I only noted it to explain the difference between the original quote and the end price. I asked to buy the paint...
-We hired V[redacted] Painting Company to finish what we could not. We started it, but I ran out of two things, time and the ability to climb a tall ladder. Had this not have been the case, Jay would have never been contacted. Looking at this entire situation, he suggested a solid stain to cover up the unsatisfactory work of the pressure washing crew. Once again, had they spent another 2 hours on the job, it would have been better.
-Mr. V[redacted] was hired to "finish" what I could not. If he had stained the front and rear of my house because I messed it up, then we might could use the word "salvage". Salvage is what I'm having to do with our landscaping, fire pit, rock foundation, and the exterior of my Jeep. The derogatory remarks for the home that I work very hard to provide and pay for are not necessary and insulting.
-Two filed complaints, both begin from someone who needed help and chose V[redacted] Painting to do so. Practical Statistics says that this is a pattern. They are not as caring for a customer's property when they aren't the ones that started the job. That's a very arrogant way to do business, or treat people in general.
In closing, this is a dishonest way to do business. I only wanted to work with Jay and have my home stained. In return, I have to repair things that I don't have the time, finances, or equipment to do so. Had I not been lied to in person, and was communicated with properly, then we wouldn't be here. Per Mr. V[redacted]'s ending statement, anyone who wants to can come by and validate this complaint. I have and can easily retrieve any data pertaining to phone calls, text messages, and voicemail, along with date and time stamped pictures of the damage and website.

Final Business Response /* (4000, 15, 2016/06/12) */
First off I am not trying to be derogatory or insulting to any one. I can appreciate that Mr. [redacted] is a hard worker and family man. I also put in 50 to 70 hours a week working and am involved in my childrens many activities.
We where at Mr. [redacted]s for all of 2.5 to three days, we spoke several times on the phone. My comments about solid stain where made way before we ever started the job as I had priced this job several years ago. I would never have started staining that home with a semi-transparent stain to begin with. We only did so because Mr. [redacted] had already started the job that way. No amount of power washing would have stripped all of the old stain off without completly ripping the loggs to shreds.
My intention in taking this job was to help the [redacted]s out. Had I not been out there multiple times over the course of the last several years pricing this job, I probably would not have taken on this project.
On April 11 when Mr. [redacted] paid me I was not even there to get paid. I simply stopped by to check on the job and make sure everything looked good. I had no idea he would be coming home at that time or had a baseball game. He asked if I would come back tomorrow, I said I would rather not if I didn't have to simply because their home is about a 40 minute drive from any where and we where just cleaning up and finished with the job.
It was after 6 when we left, he could have reviewed the job again the following morning and stopped payment on the check if he was so disatisfied or called me.
As for the coupon I honestly did not think I had any coupons out there for that particlular offer. In reviewing my website there is a coupon, I do not manage my website personally and do not look at it ever as I am not looking to hire myself. I have not had any customers use a coupon in several years for that particular offer, so I thought it was an old coupon perhaps from when I priced the [redacted]s project several years ago.
So am I guilty of having a coupon on the internet, yes.
Am I guitly of overspraying a 4.5 foot dwarf spruce, yes.
Am I guilty of overspray on a 98 Jeep, possibly not sure did not see it myself. I feel like I might have been leaned next to it when he wrote the check I am sure I would have noticed.
Am I guilty of overspray on foundation, could have been there from previous job not sure, do not recall seeing overspray we did clean a couple of drips some fresh some old.
I did see a drop or 2 of paint on HVAC unit and I had my men clean it up.
The men did clean their spraying in the [redacted]'s fire pit , I did not physically smell to see whether it was gas or what. I am only going by what my men told me.
If Mr. [redacted] agrees I would be willing to to give him a certified check for $500.00 for the replacement of the tree should it die, have the fire pit cleaned out and to have his Jeep buffed out.
I am truly sorry for any inconvience or grief that I have caused the [redacted]'s. My intention was to help them make their home look beautifull. I did spend a fair amount of time with Mrs. [redacted] trying to suggest what I thought would look best and suggested several ideas based on my 20 years of experience painting homes in the Triad.
Best regards,
Jay V[redacted]
Final Consumer Response /* (2000, 17, 2016/06/19) */
(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
There is no need in cleaning the fire pit or buffing the Jeep as both have already been completed. We will accept the amount that Mr. V[redacted] has offered so we may put an end to this ordeal and recoupe a portion of our losses.
