My name is Donald V [redacted] , president of Vastine's Auto Service Inca business that I have operated since 1980.Lets StartI received a call from Kim for an estimate to replace the catalytic converter on her vehicle, which I gave to herI questioned her as to why she needed a converterKim told me she had her car a [redacted] Dealership and they told her that her converter was badKim's vehicle came due for the annual emissions and Safety inspections by October 31, 2015,and she elected to have us replace the converterWe ran the emissions test and the vehicle failed, the service engine light was onThe failure was for an emissions code ***(catalytic converter efficiency)We replaced the converter with any additional testing in part due to knowledge that [redacted] had found the same problem and because replacing the converter is the common repair for the code ***(90% of the time)After the Service Engine Light is cleared from the vehicles computer, it then has to be driven to reset readiness monitor to get it ready to pass the emissions test, this were the problem startedWe rescheduled Kim's car for Friday Oct30th, because it was the next time Kim could leave her vehicleThe Service light came on again for the same reason a code ***Since time was running close for her Inspection stickers to expireWe opted to get a Waiver Emissions Test performedTo qualify for a waiver, the repairs must be made on items that caused the Service Engine Light to be onRepairs over $allow a Waiver test to be done.Kim paid [redacted] Incfor the cost of the converter replacement but not for the failed Emissions test or the safety Inspection fees or the Waiver FeeOur shop does not perform Waiver inspections.I told Kim additional testing will be needed to see if the converter we installed was bad or if there is another problem with her vehicle, we had saved the old converter for weeks just in case it was not the problem.The frustration Kim may have sensed from me may be because it was very difficult for her to let her car with me long enough to perform all the testing needed.The first attempt to find the problem was to perform a converter Out Gassing, a test [redacted] (A nationwide repair hot line service, that aides techs with vehicle problems) recommended, we performed the procedure and cleared the Service engine light- Drove car to get it to run the Converter readiness monitorThe monitor ran and passedI left the test equipment connected and showed Kim it had? passed the testSome days later the Service Engine light came on again for the same reasonI told Kim the vehicle will have to be retested to get to the bottom of the problem, however we disposed of her old converter and no longer had the option to reinstall it.I have seen Kim at least times since we degassed her converter and ask her to have me do additional testing, but Kim has not returned her vehicle for any additional testing.I always try and work out problems with my customers when they arise and usually can come to some kind of satisfying resolutionMy Goal is to find to problem with Kim's car and make repairs as neededWhether the converter we sold her is the problem or whether there is another problem more testing will be needed.However if the Revdex.com thinks should refund her for the converter will total the testing, the calls to the [redacted] , and the unpaid fees and deduct them from the amount she has paid.The end result will be, the car is not fixed and Kim will have to go through the same thing next year when her vehicle is due for Inspections again.Let me know what the Revdex.com decides.Thank You,Donal V
