I said "I cannot trouble shoot without seeing the letter. But if I made a mistake, I would pay 100% of the penalty and the interest that it caused them to have to pay. If the error affects the Minnesota return, I would also amend the return for free." After receiving a copy of the letter, I found that one of the items was keyed under the wrong line. I called [redacted] using the phone number that he had provided to me, I informed him that the IRS are , correct. I said "I was so very sorry. But I would keep my promise to pay 100% of the penalty ($503) and 100% of the interest 053). You will need to pay the full amount of what is stated on the IRS letter, As soon as things settle down at my office, I will amend the 2015 Minnesota return and I would include the reimbursement check as soon as I could." I issued a check for $468 on February 15th, 2017 of which I allowed $110 for the possibility of a penalty from Minnesota. The Amended Minnesota return and the reimbursement check was mailed on February 16th, 2017. My tax preparation fee for that year was $100.00.
