The Executive Board of Veterinary Emergency Service offers our most sincere apologies for our oversight in not responding promptly to your case investigationOur board only meets once a month at which time any cases warranting review are
thoroughly reviewed
Our Board which reviewed Mr***'s complaint is composed of six veterinariansThis complaint was also evaluated by our board certified criticalist in veterinary emergency medicine and surgery
Mr***'s pet, *** was presented to VES with the vague and ill-defined complaint of lethargy and inappetenceOur staff veterinarian, Dr*** did not note anything unusual relative to the anal areaHe did notice a moderate amount of vulvar involution and erythemic spots in the skin of the ventral area of the bodySince neither of these findings appeared severe enough to cause the presenting complaint, Dr*** properly advised blood tests to rule out a more serious diseaseMr*** agreed to the blood work as noted on the signed estimate formFortunately, the blood tests revealed two results which were only mildly outside their values but did not elucidate the presenting signs
We are not convinced that anal saculitis or an impaction of the anal sacs was responsible for *** condition at the time she was presented to our hospitalWe cannot surmise the condition of the anal sacs days later when she was presented to her regular veterinarian
We are profoundly disappointed that Mr*** feels that he was taken advantage ofWe appeal to his better judgement in understanding that Dr, *** performed the blood tests in his desire to accurately diagnose *** problem and to rule out serious and life threatening diseasesAlthough veterinarians are skilled in using the diagnostic modalities of sight, tough, hearing and smell, we are required to rely on additional testing when necessary
Again, we apologize for this delayed response and ask for your understandingWe respect the mission of the Revdex.com and would like to remain in good standingSincerely, The Executive Board of Veterinary Emergency Service

I have consulted with two other veterinarians which indicated the correct treatment would have been to administer medication to alleviate the pressure on the brain (diuretic, etc). XRays were NOT necessary in the treatment of water intoxication. This veterinarian working that evening had no idea my dog had even been in the water. This was apparent by her own admission and her statement "Oh, she was in the water?" This statement was made several hours (hundreds of dollars) after we arrived and after irreversible damage had occured.

To whom it may concern, This letter is in response to the complaint filed by Ms. [redacted] on November 25, 201 5 to the Fresno Revdex.com.
Ms. [redacted] brought in her pet "Charlie" to our clinic on November 24, 2015 at 9pm. Charlie...

presented with bite wounds from earlier that morning.
Charlie was in circulatory shock as noted by the history and physical exam. The standard of care to treat shock is pain medication, IV fluids, and other medications if blood pressure cannot be stabilized with the above. Baseline lab work is also warranted to rule out damage to internal organs (from trauma, shock) as well as monitor for any overt blood loss. Also, since the pet was going to need anesthesia for the surgical repair, baseline lab work is warranted to rule out any underlying organ derangement.
Antibiotics were given since this was an animal that had been attacked by another animal_ This is also supported by Charlie's elevated white blood count in the complete blood count lab test.
To respond to Ms. [redacted]'s comment about having done nothing for the injury, we provided analgesia to keep Charlie comfortable; splinting of the humerus is difficult without anesthesia (a spica splint needs to be placed for proper placement). Since the pet was in shock, anesthesia at the time of presentation was not warranted due to risk to kidneys. Also, since pet was transferring directly to her primary care vet for fracture repair (after the pet was stable), no splint was necessary. As for Ms. [redacted]'s comment about someone telling her that we lower prices for people trying to leave, that is not our policy. Our team is versed in responding to financial questions, as many clients are often unprepared for their unexpected pet's emergency.
The claim that they did not know we could not fix fractures is untrue. Dr. Schreiber was quite clear about what our capabilities were with regard to the fracture. Ms. [redacted] had been in a hurry to get to work and did not want to wait for diagnostics, so lab work and radiograph results were relayed over the phone. The fracture was noted at the time of presentation and referral to surgeon was offered and declined (as noted in the record).
Claims made by Ms. [redacted] about her regular vet commenting on our charges and care was investigated. I contacted her regular veterinarian directly and he did not make such statements about our care or charges. We take our relationship with referring veterinarians seriously and want to ensure good relationships with them.
Again, we strive to provide the very best medicine for injured pets and we are very sorry that Ms. [redacted] was unhappy with the care we provided. We have every confidence in our medical team and after further investigation, feel Charlie received appropriate care for his condition within the realm of what Ms. [redacted] approved.
