Veterinary Medical & Surgical Hospital of Topeka, P.A. Reviews (4)

Revdex.com On Thursday, June 25th 2015,the prospective patient called our clinic and berated our staff to schedule anappointment for her for medication refill for a medication that was prescribed by another physician at another clinic. She spoke with me after speaking
with one of our Phone Operators. The prospective patient was very rude and demanding about seeing a MD so that she could obtain the prescription she required. I tried several times to talk with her about our bio-identical hormone program called Club Longevity through which we counsel and prescribe bio-identical hormone medications but she kept arguing with me suggesting we were a “cult” and proceeded to insult our employees and clinic. I told her that like any other hormone and wellness program in Austin we have fees associated with our program. She refused to acknowledge that this was a common practice and continued to rudely demand an appointment to see a MD. Seeing how unhappy she was with us without even becoming a patient yet I politely suggested that she find another clinic that could satisfy her needs but she refused and continued to demand an appointment with any of our MD’s so she could receive a medication refill. I explained that we have specific Providers who prescribe bio-identical hormones as not all of our Providers are trained with regards to bio-identical hormones. I informed her that I wouldtalk to our Club Longevity program coordinator, ***, and I would get back with her while she was on hold. Her comment to me was “Why would you have a MAN making appointments for WOMEN?!?” I explained again that he’s our program coordinator and transferred her call to him once I found him. *** spoke with the prospective patient who immediately started asking him if our medical program was again a “cult” and asked him “what level of the cult do YOU fall into?” *** was very polite with her and explained our medical program is not a “cult” but rather a hormone wellness program called Club Longevity at Victory Medical She repeated the word “cult” several times to ***. He explained to her that we do not have any MD’s who prescribe bio-identical hormones but we do have Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants who work in this program who do prescribe this type of medication but she insisted on seeing a MD at our clinic for the refill she wanted. She said she has a list of other doctors in the area who do not have a wellness program like ours associated with their clinics so we understand the prospective patient has some options and we’re not certain why she insisted to argue with us for almost an hour over the phone between three of our employees. We do have annual fees with our Club Longevity bio-identical hormone replacement program as do other hormone and wellness programs in Austin such as Cenegentics, Hormone and Wellness Center of Texas, Hormone Therapeutics (monthly fees), to name a few and all are wonderfully helpful programs. We are aware of some of these medical programs charging several thousands of dollars per year for their medical program fees. We do charge $annually for patients who want to join our program but offer a discount if the patients choose our pharmacy. We have many patients who pay their annual fee and use another pharmacy The prospective patient said she uses a different pharmacy in Austin and will tell them to stop sending business our way during her discussion with *** and myself. The call ended with the prospective patient threatening to reach out to anyone she could to harm our business. We sincerely tried to accommodate this person and wish her the best in her future medical endeavors. Thank you, *** *** Victory Medical Center

I am rejecting this response because:By law charging $1,200 annually to be able to establish a family practice doctor and get my menopause hormones refilled is wrong. It should be illegal by the state. I have medical insurance and was told the $1,200 cult fee would not be covered by insurance. This practice is pro rich patients and discriminatory against people who do not have money to pay a $1,200 membership fee out of pocket to see a family practice doctor. It's wrong and needs to be stopped.

We do NOT charge any annual fees for a patient to see a medical provider at our medical clinic.  If a patient is seen at our clinic for anything that is not bio-identical hormone therapy related the patients pay their co-pay or whatever their out-of-pocket expenses would be in association to their office visit and any additional services.  We do however charge an annual fee for patients to join Club Longevity at Victory Medical Center as it is a medical program which offers bio-identical hormone replacement therapy treatment. There are hundreds of these medical programs around Austin and the United States where patients join a medical program for their hormone and wellness needs.  Some of these programs (one in Austin) charge upwards of $10,000.00 per year or more.  Many bio-identical hormone programs also charge monthly fees in addition to their annual fees.  We keep the annual fee (no monthly fees) as low as possible with regards to the program, patient access, continued education and on-going medication monitoring through extensive lab work and office visits, provider scheduling, etc.  Our in-house pharmacy also keeps medication costs as low as possible.  Our pharmacy's hormone medications are much lower than other compounding pharmacy in the area for hormones.  We are not a "cult" as this patient continues to state but rather a fully engaged, physician supervised medical program through which patients can manage their bio-identical hormone replacement needs.  This patient informed us that she has a list of doctors to whom she can go for her medical needs so we're deeply saddened that she continues to remain dissatisfied with us after we tried to help her understand our medical program for bio-identical hormone replacement therapy.  We hope she finds the right fit with regards to her healthcare needs and we sincerely wish her only the best in her medical endeavors.   Thank you, [redacted] Victory Medical Center
