I found Barnhill Handyman Services in the April HTC telephone book on page I told him that I had a few very minor things that I needed done and my commode had a problem of runningHe put a screw on the wall to hang a battery operated smoke alarm, changed a doorbell (but not a chime box) just a prettier doorbell outside, vacuumed dust on a high shelf, & changed the switch (needed new fuse) & last fix commodeAs you can tell, everything listed with exception of commode took very little timeHe ended up replacing a couple of things in the tank of the commodeWhen he left, I assumed the commode was fineWell- not so Long story short - it was not fixed at allI was left with same symptomI paid him $I had no one else to help me so I had to pay someone I sent him several emails and finally I called several times because I was not getting anywhereSomeone suggested that I call from another phone.and he answered after three ringsHe said that he would call me in minutesI NEVER HEARD FROM HIM AGAINIt is a shameful way to do business I Had to hire a plumbing company which of course cost me more money but it was fixedWould you hire him? You be the judge I found out for sure that he is also listed under Barnhill Electrical and Plumbing Company that covers Horry and Georgetown countiesBut he is the only employee and one part time helper

We are posting this complaint on behalf of my wife's parents who are the property owners where the work was to be completedThey live in Ohio and their vacation rental is in North Myrtle BeachIn October, while at the property with them, they contacted Barnhill Electric to give them a price and hopefully complete some assorted, minor improvementsThey had use MrBarnhill the previous April and were satisfied with his workWe were all present when the owner walked Scott around pointing out the tasks she wanted doneAt that time she stated it would be no hurry seeing that we probably won't have any rentals till the SpringTo avoid any confusion I sent MrBarnhill an email itemizing a room by room task list and asked for a written estimateScott sent us an email on 11/staying he would have the estimate to us by Monday 11/and would be able to start Wednesday 11/and should have it completed in a few weeksHe also said that he requested 40% of the total bill to buy materialsA check was sent to him the next *** and cashed 11/We sent him an email 12/requesting a progress report of the work following continued request by the ownerShe had ordered new furniture while down there and wanted to get housekeeping in to clean and make arrangements to get the furniture deliveredIn this email We told MrBarnhill that he needed to out by mid-January in order for us to have this completed by the 1st of February for a rentalWe had no communication with Scott after this email, and had sent housekeeping there on 1/to see if it was at a completion point to get this doneMrBarnhill saw her and then called my wife leaving her a message that he couldn't work under this stress and just wanted to get the job done, and to do that he needed to hire "casual help" and would need $towards the bill to pay themI called MrBarnhill and said we would put a check in the mail the next dayI called Scott on 1/and asked about progressHe said it was "all" done but waiting on the faucets he ordered to come in which he said would be there Friday, Monday at the latestAt this point we felt there were several red flags so we asked our housekeeper to go to the condo on Sunday 1/and check the progressShe called and sent pictures showing there was nothing done since her last visitAt this point my wife and I felt we couldn't take a chance that the work wouldn't be completed so we drove to the condo from OhioOn arrival, Wednesday 11/14, we found several tasks not completed and messy conditions in the work areasI called Scott the next day and asked if he had completed the project and he said he was still waiting for the faucetsAt this time we told him to his surprise we were down there and he needed to bring us our key, pick up his tools and we would settle upMrBarnhill sent another party for thisAfter this, MrBarnhill would only communicate via texts and said he didn't deal with contractors, which was discussed in previous email, only homeownersAt this point we felt it necessary to change the locks, at the homeowners expense, and to finish the job making additional purchases amounting to around $My wife and I completed the tasks in dayThere was now effort on the part of MrBarnhill to return any of the additional $for "casual help" that was to be employed to finish this jobWe are VERY DISSATISFIED with MrBarnhill and his companyI feel his actions to be very unprofessional and completely shameful

My take on Scott is that he might be a good electrician but don't have him do any other workI think he didn't want to do the work and couldn't tell me thatHere's why I think this:
I am a part-time resident at the beach and had to have a window replacedI made two special trip to my beach house to get this work done
I made arrangements through Angles List and got a prompt responseThrough email, we set up an appointment for three days later
Scott was a no show for the appointment because he was sickHe did call an old number of mine and got someone else's voicemail and left a messageI emailed Scott the day of the appointment and ask if we were still on and got a call saying he was sick We had only communicated via email up to this pointHad he sent me an email, we would have been goodI was so frustrated with Scott that I hung up on himI emailed him the next day and apologized, ask him if we could just start overWe agreed to work it out
I picked a second date and he couldn't do itIt was too soonI ask him in the mean time to drive by our house and look at the window we wanted replaced
He drove by, looked at work and emailed me that it might take more than the two hours I paid forI said OK
We set up a date and I emailed him the night before and got weather excusesNews was predicting ice I checked and this was NOT the forecast for our area but about miles inlandIt never rained at my house and the morning of the appointment he told me it was sprinkling where he was
Called me appointment morning and said it's not really raining but if I start and it rains, I'll stop workScott said he had checked the radar and there was no rain in sight, but he didn't sound like he was interestedHe's replacing a window, so that really wouldn't workHe called me back and said I hung up on him (which I don't think I did) so we were finishedI apologized and we left the call OK, I thought
Scott never showed up and never called me back
