Victorian Bridal & Formal Wear Reviews (1)

I work at a different bridal store and work with the same designers that Victorian Bridal does. I recently went to this store last week to purchase a bridesmaid dress with my friend (the bride) and another bridesmaid who is also a good friend of mine. The consultant measured us, and I went to go grab our sizes so we could try them on before ordering. My friend was measured as a 16 but to be safe ordered a size 18 for a couple different reasons. The consultant opened up their size book to the Mori Lee size chart (mori lee is the designer of the dress we are getting). The consultant told us that Mori Lee has size charges for plus size dresses, which I saw in the sizing book that they have. Working at a bridal store in the fox valley, I knew that some designers do in fact have size charges, so I didn't question it.

Here is where my problem starts. I was at the bridal store I work at Friday evening and ended up finding out that Mori Lee HASN'T done an extra charge for plus size dresses in nearly a year! I instantly called Victorian Bridal around 4:15pm to ask why 2 of the bridesmaids in the bridal party were charged for their plus sized dresses. The consultant I was speaking to says "I wasn't aware that they weren't charging that anymore, I will call Mori Lee and give you a call back". About 15 minutes goes by and I get a call back and the consultant informs me that she talked to the OWNER (not Mori Lee) and the owner told her that it is not a Mori Lee charge but THE STORES SIZE CHARGE to "keep it consistent". At this point I am just irritated beyond belief at the way they have deceived people for almost a year! I reply by asking "so you have been gaining pure profit off of women that have to order a plus size dress?" and she says "like I said we are just trying to keep things consistent". I simply said, "you should expect another call from me in the next couple days" and just hung up.

I then called back the next day (Saturday) and asked to talk to a manager. After placing me on hold the consultant picks up and asks who is calling, I tell her my name, she places me on hold...and then I hear someone pick up and instantly hang up. So I called back and she apologized for the "disconnection" and then says that there is no manager on duty. Having worked in retail for many years, I know there always has to be a manager on duty especially on a Saturday. I simply asked her to leave my name and phone number and have the manager or owner give me a call on Monday.

Well, today is Monday and I'm not sure if it was the owner or just a manager I talked to, but her name was [redacted]. I thought by talking to a manager or the owner I could express my concern and hear their side, and things would clear up. Unfortunately, it was the opposite. The phone call between [redacted] and I started out by me explaining how the situation started with going through the experience at the store, and then the phone call on Friday. During this I could hear her doing other work, and at one point even heard her car beeping...so I knew I didn't have her undivided attention. I remained calm because I wanted to be taken seriously, and I didn't want to come off and an over-dramatic customer. When I explained to her that what the store was doing was size discrimination, she not only said "psh" but also LAUGHED at me! I said "I don't appreciate you laughing when I am expressing a very real concern". She then went on to become overly defensive and when I suggested that, if they continue this unnecessary charge, to advertise it as a store charge and not a designer charge (so to be held accountable if other customers had concerns about it, also so its not misleading or manipulating customers), she said "I have 25 years of experience and I'm not willing to have you tell me what I should do with my business". She then says "I will give the two bridesmaids their money back, is that enough for you?"...I replied by saying "I appreciate that, but I want to be clear that the point of this call was not souly to get their money back. It's about that charge and the manipulation and discrimination that goes along with it". Again she laughed. She then just started saying anything she could to try and get me off the phone. It got to the point where I knew I wasn't getting through to her anymore, so I gave in and just hung up.

This experience was awful! The fact that my concerns were not taken seriously and I was so obviously disrespected by a person of management, just shows that this is not a place I will ever give my business to again. I also do not recommend it to anyone else!
