While Viking Plumbing was at my home making a repair to my sump pump, I asked the plumber about a new utility sink for the basement as only one side of the double-bowl sink was functional; the left side leaks. I said that if wasn't the right person to do this, I could call. He quoted me $618 for a new double-bowl sink and told me I can always get this information from the office as well. I thought that was a good price and a few days later I called and set up the appointment with Kevin. I did not ask the price as I already had been given the price by the plumber, nor was any price provided to me on that call. Several days later I talked to *** in the Viking office, who wanted to confirm that it was a double-sink. She told me the name of the product and that I could find examples of what it looked like online, but it was a good product and I would be happy with it. Again, I did not ask for the price (since I already had been given one) and one was not provided to me.

After the work was done, I received a bill for $1,103.91. I called to ask about the large discrepancy and was told by *** that it seemed odd and he would call me back on Monday after discussing with the office manager. I recounted to *** the conversation I had with the plumber, with him in setting up the appointment, and with Peg. I would have looked for at least one other quote for this project had I known that it was going to be over one thousand dollars. Wednesday I heard back from *** that he and the office manager both asked the plumber that provided me the quote what such a project costs and that he gave both of them the accurate number, not the amount that he quoted me of $618. *** said that I must have been mistaken in my interaction with the plumber. I reiterated that I was not and *** said that there wasn't anything he could do for me besides write a note with my payment that I was not satisfied.

Disappointed with this outcome, I posted reviews for the vendor to let others know about the poor service. Viking Plumbing posted an incredibly unprofessional response to my review.

I took notes of how long the plumber was doing work in my apartment, and it wasn't a minute over 2 hours and 15 minutes. However, I was charged 2.5 hours for the work they did. Additionally, they charged an unreasonable markup on the parts they installed. They charged me $30 for fittings I can get from *** for $15 (100% markup). I was charged for four fittings which is accurate.

As stated to the customer, Viking does not purchase materials from *** The quality of their products do not meet our high standards and we prefer to shop at local wholesale houses. Regarding the time, my plumber stated he was there two hours and eighteen minutes. It is Viking's policy to round up to the next fifteen minutes. We always give customers our rates upfront when they call for service. It is difficult to work with a customer who states outright he will not pay his bill.Sincerely,Owner

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The fittings that were installed were of the exact same quality that were located on the *** website (Sharkbite fittings). The *** price I located is already marked-up from their cost. If Viking plumbing is unable to procure the fittings at this price or less, that is not my concern and they should consider getting parts through ***. I agree, I was aware of the billing rates before the plumber came to my residence; however, I was not aware that I would be overcharged for the amount of hours the plumber was there, or the excessive markup that would be applied to the parts. I indicated to the owner that I was more than happy to pay my bill as long as it was adjusted like I outlined.
