On Sunday, June 23, when we turned in for the evening, we discovered a very large, foul smelling wet spot on the bed that had saturated the mattress. When we alerted Tom, he suggested that we sleep on the couches in the common living area because he didn't have another room available. We asked him to book us a room at another hotel. At this time, he told us he would upgrade us for our second night, but more importantly, we would be in a new room. When we returned the next day, Tom took us back to the same room, explaining that the mattress had been cleaned. When I requested a refund, Tom got very upset. He raised his voice and told me be was a cancer survivor. I guess he did that to guilt me into backing off. He stormed out of the room and told me to ask for a refund from the company Travelzoo, from whom we had purchased the travel voucher. This confrontation made things very uncomfortable. We certainly couldn't join Tom and the other guests for breakfast after being berated. We packed up early in the morning and left. After returning home, I contacted Travelzoo for a refund, and they told me the refund would have to come from the business.
