[redacted] **Subject: Revdex.com Complaint [redacted] To: [email protected], [redacted] .I am responding to your report of a complaint # [redacted] .The customer dropped his Chevy Struck off asking me to check the following several items he was having problems with Drive line vibration Fuel leaking from a metal to rubber hose coupling in the filler tube assembly Check out the front and rear wheel bearings.I told him we would check out his concerns and get back to him with a estimate before doing any repairs(Which is our policy)I test drove the truck to verify the drive line vibration, it was notably there and in my experience it was a drive shaft related problem.I positioned the truck on a lifting rack in the shop and lifted the truck so I could check out his concernsI first checked the fuel leak issue and I found the clamp holding the rubber hose to the metal a bit loose, I got two turns tightening the clampThis is a significant amount for a clamp and there was a very good chance this solved his leaking problemOnce he got gas again he would know and if its not fixed we could take the next step which would be removing the fuel tank and that would let us get a look at the hoses on top where the filler hose goes into the tank to see what was actually leaking.I explained to him: Removing the fuel tank is quite a bit expensive and usually with a vehicle years old there will be other things needed to do thisexamples are , rusted out tank mounting straps and rusted fuel lines that will brake if flexed any.I then looked at his drive shaft and confirmed that it needed rebuilt meaning it needed three U-joints and a carrier bearingThen I checked the rear wheel bearings and they were fine and checked the front wheel bearings and the drivers side was a little looseI adjusted it and installed a new cotter pin, no charge for the pinI then gave the truck a quick look over noting other items that need attention like the exhaust tail pipe ready to fall off, just so he was aware of these thingsI then called The customer and explained to him exactly what I stated above in this e-mailI gave him a estimate of $to $to rebuild the driveshaftI explained that I found a loose clamp on the filler hose and tightened itI explained that if the fuel was still leaking the tank would have to come out at a large expense to get more access to see what was leaking but it may be fixed with the clamp I tightened, he would know next time he got fuel I explained about the wheel bearingsHe told me that he didn't want to spend any money on it, he only had $invested in it and it was ALREADY on Craig's List For Sale and wanted to know what he owedI told him we only had one hour Diagnostic labor in it and with tax it came to $62.01.He called me back about minlater complaining that I didn't fix anything so why did he owe anything? I tried explaining that I did exactly what he wanted done and reported back to him with an estimate for the drive line and a repair plan for the fuel leak if it wasn't fixed with the clamp tightening and we didn't work for free.He responded with "It must be nice to have a heated garageI asked him if he wanted to OK the repairs and that I would be happy to put his car back on the rack and proceed with the drive line repair and remove the fuel tank to see if there was any leaking items on topHe said no and asked "do I have to pay the whole thing?" My response was yesI have a hour worth of work in itThinking to myself he must have not wanted to crawl under it himself in the cold but for some reason he thought he could bring it to a business and have someone do it for freeHe came in the next day and paid the bill without saying a word about the price. In my opinion he just wanted someone to see what was wrong so he could do the repair work himself and unload the truck onto someone else for a profit since he was advertising it before he even knew the estimate from meIn your correspondence letter to me under "Customer experience Infothe customers complaint is"I was charged auto repair that wasn't done" My response is He was charged one hour labor for diagnostics on the problems he asked me to look at and to let him know the repair costsI fulfilled his requestThere was no repair work done for him to complain to the Revdex.com about !
