Vinny's General Contracting Corp. Reviews (1)

In June 2010, our house was destroyed in a fire, and needed to be fully rebuilt. We retained VINNY'S GENERAL CONTRACTING, INC., owned by [redacted], to rebuild. Vinny's General Contracting, Inc., began work in August of 2010 and completed work by March 2011. There are several outstanding issues we have had with the work done in our home that we have been trying to have addressed since March of 2011. 1) The winter we moved back in our house (2011-2012) was very mild, so at that time, we did not experience what has now become an ongoing issue with freezing water lines in our kitchen. However, during the winter that immediately followed (2012-2013), we had several strings of days where the temperature was in the teens. As a result, the water line in my dishwasher hose froze completely. This was only discovered after I had called in a dishwasher repairman (at our expense) who explained that ICE was blocking the line and the machine was not faulty. About a day later, the kitchen cold water line to the sink froze. I discussed both incidents with [redacted] in January 2013. [redacted] was very busy at that time, during the months following Hurricane Sandy. He told me he would "take care of it as soon as he got a chance". Being a reasonable person, and understanding personally and full well what people go through when they have been displaced from their home, I did not "push" him as I knew he was rebuilding homes lost in Sandy. I did, however, continue to call every month or so to try to pin down a date to have the water line problem and other problems fixed, all to no avail. One YEAR later, on January **, 2014, the cold water line in my kitchen froze yet again, as well as the drain in our bathtub. I alerted [redacted] yet again. [redacted] and his crew did come to my home, and did put more insulation in my outside wall in the kitchen. However, on January **, 2014, the cold water line in the kitchen, as well as the dishwasher line were frozen yet again. He did not return to fix the problem.

2) In the summer of 2011, we noticed water leaking from the vent in our upstairs hallway during a rainstorm. Our insurance company allotted $7000.00 for roof repair. Clearly, if this were repaired properly, there should NOT be any gap in the roof for water to be coming through. [redacted] told us he would "send someone to take a look". This issue was not addressed.

3) When we moved back into our home in March 2011, we immediately noticed that the shellac on kitchen and living room hardwood floors had been pulled off the floor when protective cardboard (put there by Vinny's GC, Inc. when appliances were being delivered) was removed. We immediately notified Vinny's about this. Then another problem arose with the floor. When the plumber contracted by Vinny's hooked up the water line to our refrigerator, he left temporary plastic tubing rather than replace it with copper tubing. A few months after we moved back in 2011, the temporary tubing developed holes and leaked. The kitchen floor was flooded while my husband and I were at work and our kids were at school. As a result, the wood was saturated and buckled in several areas and the water leaked down into the laundry room below. We notified [redacted] again, and again he promised to remedy the situation by having wood replaced in our kitchen and that the kitchen and living room floors would be re-sanded and resealed. This did not take place.

ALL of these items (and other issues which we addressed ourselves at our own expense) were discussed with [redacted] at the times they occurred. We remained patient throughout this time, in hope that the outstanding problems would be addressed. However, during this recent spate of extremely cold weather in January and February, our kitchen cold water line has been freezing at least twice a week, and presently BOTH our hot and cold water lines are completely frozen, as well as our dishwasher line. We have not had hot or cold water in our kitchen for the past 7 days, and the cold water line has frozen on and off for the past two-three weeks each time the temperature dipped into the teens. Temperatures are not expected to be above freezing for weeks. I telephoned and emailed [redacted] on Monday, February **, 2015. He seemed irritated and offered NO SOLUTION. This situation is completely unacceptable, and I have come to believe that [redacted] has no intention of properly addressing this or any of the other issues. The shame of this is, aesthetically, the house turned out beautiful, and I was happy with most of the work done. The follow-up, however, has been horrendous. I did not feel I could recommend him to others in good conscience.
