The customer notified us about an issue with one of her sconces she purchased was broken. We offered for her to...

return for full refund or the option that we could custom re-cast another one for her from an original.

We sent a return label with the option to send her three original and one re-cast as she originally agreed or the option of a full refund if she sent all four sconces and shades back.
She has not used the return label and we have not received the fixtures back.

It does cost more to re-cast than it does to re-finish an original piece, especially for such a small quantity.

To re-cast involves a lot of work to be done, make new mold, pour wax to the mold, make a wax tree, add 7 coats of ceramic slurry, each layer needing to be cured each time. it takes two weeks to dry all 7 layers of slurry.

Then the wax tree is burned out in the burn out oven, the metal is then poured into the ceramic mold. The ceramic mold is then broken by hand since the piece is very delicate, and then casting parts must be machined by hand, Then finally cleaned, polished, and re-finished, assembled, wired and tested. You can see on our website some of our restored antiques are less expensive than our reproductions of the same item.

If the customer had not agreed to re-cast we would not have gone to this extent to re-cast the sconce.

If you have any questions please contact us at any time.
