We paid Chad for a down payment on our wedding and reception. His venue flooded, and I called, emailed, my fiance went over to visit, we asked if it would be ok. He stated it would. However, he tore up the floors, had cement with nails and screws sticking out, all the grass was dead, and it was a mud field where we were supposed to get married. The roads were all closed to get to him, and the bridge was out. He told us to have guests go around the road blocks, and that we would get our deposit back because we could get married there. When my Husband, then finance, went to look and asked about taking pictures, to show me, Chad told him absolutely not. There was no way for us to get married there. As I picked up and finalized other items, I started hearing others who had scheduled here and he took their money as well. All we asked for was our deposit back so we could get another place. Please understand this was all happening 2 weeks before our wedding. We asked and asked for 2 months. The week before we found a place, and ended up paying and now spent double for a venue, and it was because this unprofessional, unacceptable behavior. That multiple people have experienced. I would simply like our deposit back. I am filling this out, but will need to do some looking for specific amount and dates.

Desired Outcome

Refund I would like our deposit back. The owner was so far out of line. I have pictures of what we were promised, and the state/city blockades so we couldn't get to the venue. And dates. I need to do some looking for dates and exact amount. $*** is close. It's been a nightmare.

We did have a flood event and a month later, these consumers wanted to cancel. We were doing everything we could to repair everything so we would still be able to honor agreements. We told them we could ready for their wedding event and we were ready. If they would have had a good reason to cancel, we would honor that. Even though it isn't in our contract, we would have done so. There was no more flooding and the building venue was ready to host their event.
The consumer's fiancé did come out to look at the facilities and I thought he would see were ready. When he got here, he had no intentions of seeing everything and being open-minded. My caterer and plumber were out on October 3 and they said they couldn't even tell there had been a flood here.
The consumers didn't want to work with us. They stated they couldn't get down to the property due to the city doing road and bridge work. The city had put up signs stating our venue was still open and for events happening on October 3, everything went fine and there were no issues. On October 8 the road and bridge work was completed, this all before their event would have happened.
During the time of their event, the forecast was calling for 6 inches of snow, and I think they were influenced by that. The weather is beyond our control and in October and November, the ground will be brown and there won't be green spaces.
My staff worked diligently to prepare the venue and have it ready for their event. I do not feel a refund of their deposit is warranted due to the fact we were open and ready to host, and due to the terms and conditions that can be found on our website which are also stated in the contract.
We also worked with our other clients and were able to resolve their issues. We did refund some weddings, due to the flood even though we didn't have to due to our terms and conditions. We tried to work with these consumers. Since our venue was ready, we feel they had no reason to cancel, and so we will not be refunding their deposit.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I'm apologizing for sounding like this, but his response is untruth. It was not at all ready. The grass was dead, there were screws/nails sticking up in the cement where the floor was torn up, and carpet was pulled out. We were forced to not take pictures to prove it. We did not care if it snowed or not, which was not scheduled when we questioned the venue. We had booked both sides so if it was cold we could use the other building and no worries about the weather. I booked a park in the city after he wouldn't help us, so we still planned outside until it got to be a couple days out, then we simply put it inside at our new reception venue. It was not ready, and the city had signs up, that of which I do have pictures of if you need. Again, if you check with bridal stores, and hotels, we were not the first or second or even third couple he has done this to, which is just bad business. If he was so upstanding, he would have just given us our deposit and apologized for it not being ready. I do also have pictures of what it did look like when we booked it. It was beautiful. That is what we booked, not a muddy, brown, tore up problem. I still wish it would have worked, but I will gladly tell businesses and wedding planners to stay away from him as he is very ***. Just bad business.

We had events in our building 9 days after the flood there were no screws sticking up we had another event October 3 & 4. We had other events coming up as well and our place was ready. We can't control the weather, outside was never promised to be green mid October the day of their event there was snow am I responsible for that too? I am not sure how to proceed from here I have been dealing with two floods, a fire and now this. I will pay them $*** by check and expect this to be resolved. Now if they continue to slander our business then I guess we have nothing to resolve. Let me know.

(The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
I am reluctant, but if this is the best he will do, we will at least take the $***. I am fully aware he is not in control of the weather, that's why we had a back up plan with him. Also, things were green. The place looked great until the flood. I believe as he said that it's not his fault all of these things happened. I didn't say he was. I just wanted to be given our deposit back since we ended up paying for 3 places. It wasn't our fault about the 2 floods, a fire, etc. If he sends us a check immediately, I will not put any untruths anywhere.
