Virginia Auto Service Reviews (40)

My experience was very positive. They repaired an oil leak for significantly less than the [redacted] dealer estimate. My days at the dealer are over!

I have been using Virginia Auto Service for all my automotive needs for over 20 years and have always been happy with the professional, yet friendly, atmosphere, the fair quotes for work that needs to be done, the extra services they provide (ride to work and pick up after work and always washing my vehicle before returning it to me). The fact that most of the folks who work there have been there for years tells me that this is the kind of place I want to use when I need routine maintenance or large repair jobs.

As always very friendly & helpful! Service was done quickly. Love the crew!

I took my car for an oil change, they dropped me off at work and picked me up when I got out, which is very convenient for me. There customer service is awesome.

I have been taking my car there for a few years now and once again I received excellent service. I called last minute with a problem and was able to get my car fixed the same day. Every person I have dealt with there is has always been polite and takes the time to explain the issue in detail. I highly recommend Virginia Auto Service.

I have used Virginia Auto Service for years and I have always found them knowledgeable and great customer service! I would recommend to any friend or family member and I will use them for all of my car maintenance.

I went in their the other day because my sway bar snapped on my 2000 taurus and they quoted me $600 to fix just the one. I thought that was insane so I towed it to another shop who replaced both for $300. Of course I am a young female and doubt this would have happened with a man. I will never go there again.

I really appreciated them taking the time to explain what service needed to be done and actually showing me what service they did. Thanks so much.

[redacted] as always went out of his way to make a expensive care repair palpitable.

Today I took my car in for an Oil Change (PERIOD). The mechanic decided to play with my coolant overflow and when he pulled the clamp off the line the plastic broke inside the hose and they wanted me to pay for it. THAT IS CRAZY!! I never asked them to do anything other than an oil change. Conveniently, the repairs they suggested were $350+ which included an oil change, a wiper blade replacement, an air filter and the coolant overflow container. I am positive nothing was leaking before I took it in and now I have to pay for a new overflow container but I certainly will not pay them. Never Again will I take my vehicle to their place of business.

Repairs needed and pricing were communicated in a clear and proffessional matter. My BMW was finished on time at a 40% less in labor cost than what services at [redacted]. The free loaner car was a plus!

The worst ripoff ever. They bullied me and intimidated me when my Toyota Corolla broke down. It's a 2003, stick shift, and they charged me $4,000 for a new "transmission" and clutch. Sm.

And yes, I reported them to the Revdex.com, who would do Nothing.

Review: Virginia auto is screwing my royally, and doing it repeatedly.. I took my car to them last august because my key would not dislodge for the ignition. So they fixed it. A couple months later, the key would not come out again. This time they told me the alternator was bad, and gave me a price of 864.00 dollars to replace that. I thought that extremely expensive, and shopped around. [redacted] had the same thing for 524.00, so I picked it up and took it to them ([redacted]). They replaced it. A month or so later, the key would not dislodge again. Again I took it to Virginia car repair for the third time they told me it was the alternator again, but charged me 300.00 dollars to find it was that again took it back to [redacted], and they replaced it.. 2 months later, the key again. Took it back to Virginia auto repair, and they told me a different part was bad this time when I showed backup this time it would cost me another 650 or so dollars.. I handed them my credit card to get it fixed, because at that time, my car had been already taken apart, and it would cost me to do this over again.. 2 hour later they told me it was done, charged me 199.00 dollars, put the car back together, and didnt fix it again. Right after they installed a modulator, I have been having issue after issue involving the key, and it always turns out to be something else. I believe they damaged my car when they installed the original modulator. Funny thing was the first time I went back after they installed the modulator that is now causing me so many problems, the charge was exactly what they told me their alternator was.. I believe this was totally out of spite, since I told them [redacted], and a [redacted] store was so much cheaper than them. What they told me was that those repair shops install inferior products. I find that hard to believe since they are nation chains, with allot more respect than some local shop. I found that to be sour grapes, which is why they hit me with a 300.00 dollar fee, and continue to treat me like the spoiled brats they are when someone challenges their fees. I want my 199.00 dollars they charged me on 8/16/2013 back, and hope they have not caused more damage to my car. Its been nothing but trouble since they had it. This was especially though thing for me to do today, I have been un-employed for 5 weeks now, and taking my car back to them is a 75 mile round trip. And they had it for 8 hours, and they didnt do anything to my car but cost me money and time, AGAIN. I had to walk around downtown [redacted] in 112 degree weather because I didnt have the fund to travel around so they could screw me, again. While I am not sure what you can do for me, just want to alert people the only thing Virginia auto repair is good for is doing allot of checking something, at a very expensive rate and for hours upon hours of time. And ever since I took my car to them, I have been having problem after problem with my key coming out of the ignition, and hundreds of dollars with no results. They are good for one thing, making a profit from no work, and sticking people with large bills and no repairs.Desired Settlement: fix my car right, its always been a different part, and never the part they replaced. it is still happening, and I will probably have to replace the starter soon since I have to start and stop my car 5 or 6 times every time I turn it off.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] has an intermittent problem with his ignition key releasing from the ignition/lock cylinder.

On February 14, 2013 the vehicle was brought to us with a charging light on and we determined the alternator was faulty at that time, however Mr. [redacted] chose to have that repair done elsewhere.

On May 22, 2013 we were in the process of diagnosing the problem and came to a point in the 'flow chart" where we needed to verify proper voltage at a terminal in the control system. The voltage we measured was out of specification. Further testing found the battery was low on charge and the charging system voltage was low as a result of a defective alternator. With out properly functioning charging alternator and electrical system would could not proceed with any further testing.

Since the alternator had previously been replace by another shop he had to take he vehicle back to them for warranty work. We charged Mr. [redacted] for the testing performed an told him we could not continue until the electrical system was properly repaired.

Finally on August 16,2013 Mr. [redacted] brought the vehicle back for a continuation of the testing/diagnosis from May,22. After many hours we determined there is a faulty micro switch in the steering column that needs to be replaced. We gave him an estimate of approximately $650 which was roughly $180 in testing and $448 for the repair. When presented with the estimate at our counter he responded by throwing his credit card on the counter and going into a four letter word tirade.

At that time we reassembled his car with out making the repairs suggested and charged him for the testing, as was agreed upon before we started.

We are not interested in making any repairs or working on any vehicle for Mr. [redacted].

As a settlement and good will offer I'm going to refund $199.39 to Mr. [redacted] for the testing charges of August 16,2013. Mr. [redacted] should receive a check no later than September 19th. At this point I consider this matt close and will have no further communication with him

I took my BMW X3 there after being butchered on at [redacted], I mean [redacted] and had a great experience. I will take it back there to get the rest of the work done that is needed to get it back to the"Ultimate Driving Machine" status. You only get one chance to make a good first impression and [redacted] knocked it out the park !!

Virginia Auto has been doing repairs and maintenance on my '96 Nissan Sentra for the past 5-6 years and I have confidence they are excellent mechanics, trustworthy and fair. Always have had very favorable experiences and recommend highly.

Very professional and helpful.....[redacted] and staff answer all questions......

very pleased with my experience with this business,I do have one very small concern I will address on my next visit. It was a pleasure to deal with [redacted].

We have four vehicles in our family and the Virginia Auto Service family has done well each time we have brought them in for service. They are great at explaining problems and solutions. They have often gone above and beyond - I can think of instances where [redacted] (owner),[redacted] and [redacted] all did so. Example: When our coed daughter had a breakdown in Tucson and was flailing around, [redacted] called reputable stations in Tucson and got them to help. It was not even his service territory, but he helped. The other gentlemen have performed equally nobly through the years. I cannot count how many times we have gone in for oil changes, repairs, or screening of possible vehicle purchases over the years. They have consistently given excellent service. We don't go anywhere else for car repair.

I'm so glad a good friend referred me to this auto repair shop. The mechanics are all top notch, courteous, and kind. I like having everything in writing when I leave --- the tasks they performed this visit, as well as suggestions for work that might need to be done in the near future. Thank you [redacted] and all the rest for always giving me a positive experience.

Excellent customer service. This is a trust worthy business.

I have been taking my vehicle to them for the past 5 years.

Never, ever have I been disappointed. Your business matters

to them. If you have an issue they will hear you out and make it right. They are very accommodating. They provide

transportation to and from your work or home as a courtesy.
