Virginia Building Services of Roanoke, Inc. Reviews (7)

I used VBS previously to repair house and was very pleased. So we used them to finish our basement and the work was recently completed. Once again we were extremely pleased with the work. The whole team of VBS and the subcontractors did a quality job. They were timely, good craftsmen and we felt we got good value for the price. Can't recommend them more highly and would use them again in the future if need arises.

Review: I entered into contract with Virginia Building Services of Roanoke (VBS),to perform a bathroom gut and remodel... In the contract I would provide the material (shower enclosure, flooring, vanity, mirror, lighting) for this project and would pay VBS for labor/install... I have had this company perform renovations for me at another property and had no complaints... On this particular job, the shower enclosure install was done incorrectly which affected the enclosure walls, glass surround, etc... This was brought to the attention of VBS approaching completion of the job when it became evident and the project could not move forward... The representatives from VBS became very defensive towards me that products I purchased were wrong... After some back and forth the error was pinpointed and responsibility of the error was accepted by VBS... To complete the job, a third party glass enclosure company was utilized... To date, the glass shower enclosure is not keeping water in the shower... There is a leak evident at the floor/shower/wall that continues... I feel if this issue isn't fixed, further damage will occur... On a side note, the toilet that they installed rocks and its not afixed to the floor...Desired Settlement: I would ask that the issues be fixed... I have provided this VBS with over $25 - $30K in business over the years....

Response:

It is true that VBS entered into a contract with Mr [redacted] and Mr [redacted] in September of 2015 for $2,915.51. While VBS was working in their house, they requested additional plaster repair which VBS accommodated and billed an additional $125. So far, [redacted] have paid only $2712.51 of their bill and still owe $364 plus five months interest. Until they settle their account satisfactorily, VBS can offer no warranty coverage on their alleged splash/leak at their shower.

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

I do not accept the businesses response because they are not being honest... When the issue with the shower unit being improperly installed came to light, and discussions were underway as to who was at fault, [redacted] offered the reduction of the "additional plaster work" as well as the $239 "carpentry" charge associated with the job. Soon after the fault was accepted by VBS for their employees error on the install... VBS accepted responsibility for the mistake and paid to have the glass enclosure installed... Soon after completion of this I received the final bill, which included no credits as mentioned by [redacted]. I wrote VBS via email (I have all emails) to the affect that the credits were not included. I paid VBS the initial deposit on the contract of $1475.76, and at final payment I paid VBS $1236.75, which is more than the $364 credit originally offered by [redacted]. With this said, and the fact that VBS knowingly accepted fault for installing the unit incorrectly, they should warrant their work !!! I don't feel I am responsible for any balance and definitely not responsibility for any interest...

Response:

Mr [redacted] knows that [redacted]'s offered an "either/or" resolution to the shower door issue. Either a discount for the work in place or the much more expensive custom tempered glass shower door upgrade. Mr [redacted] chose the upgrade and rejected the discount. Mr [redacted]'s full payment will validate his understanding of honesty.

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Mr [redacted] did not state at any time that the discount he offered was "either / or"... Either way, my shower was installed incorrectly which has negatively affected its performance and the outcome of this project. Virginia Building Service should, out of sheer respect for a repeat customer address this... The fact they have not speaks volumes on the manner in which they do business...

Response:

Virginia Building Services prides itself on excellent customer service. For this shower remodel, VBS was only responsible for the installation. Mr. [redacted] purchased all fixtures and materials for the job. Unfortunately, Mr. [redacted] purchased economy grade fixtures for us to install. Even though we were not responsible for the materials, when Mr. [redacted] had an issue after the shower door installation, as a good will gesture, we installed a $1,200 door at no cost to Mr. [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] still owes VBS $364 plus interest on this job. We will be happy to make any repairs under the warranty after Mr. [redacted] pays his debt to us. We have tried to go above and beyond to take care of the customer by providing a better door at no cost to Mr. [redacted]. The total job was under $3,000 and we have already provided a $1,200 door at no charge to the customer. [redacted]

VBS came out on 5/23 and re-caulked around the shower and told me to wait 24 hours to use the shower. After 24 hours, the shower is still leaking on both sides of the door.

Response:

VBS sent a plumber and the project manager by to inspect and correct any leak issues yesterday 6/1/16 at noon as requested by [redacted]. They waited forty-five minutes but [redacted] did not show. They left notes of their visit and moved to the next project.

Review: The bedroom on the main floor at [redacted] St NW has leaked several times since the roof was done. I have called the office of Virginia Building Service twice since the first time the roof was installed, [redacted] came out to say that it was not a problem your company. He stated that the guttering was bad and it needed to be replaced. I replaced the guttering and since this last heavy rain just before Christmas of 2013 I am once again contacted Virginia Building Service, the problem still exist. I contacted the shingle company on 12/23/2013 thinking maybe bad shingles were used according to Owens Corning they said "Typical problems contributing to leaks are improper installation such as high nails or poor flashing detail they back their material 100%. I called the office on 12/22/2013 left a message on voicemail ([redacted]), not hearing from no one until I called on 12/26/2013 and spoke with [redacted] again, still after the conversation no one has came out, although [redacted] returned my call, and I told him that [redacted] was helping. It is now 12 days since my initial call and no one has been to my address, surely this is not professional. I have replaced the ceiling in the bedroom when [redacted] came out in July of 2012 from that heavy rain before, only this time there is damage in my bathroom wall and the ceiling in the same bedroom has again puckered. How much more do I have to encounter before one fixes the problem considering the contractor and materials supplier warranties under state farm premier service. This was done through my insurance company [redacted]Desired Settlement: Correction of exterior and interior

Their initial response was excellent and minimized additional damage after a tree penetrated the roof of our home.

The repair work was done well; field supervision was very good as was the workmanship.

I would like to express what a positive experience we had with the restoration/renovation work of Va. Bldg. Services. The employees were professional, caring and attentive to our project. When problems arose, they acted quickly to correct them and to reassure us. I highly recommend this company for any remodeling, restoration or building project you may have. Two thumbs up!

Our house was hit by a piece of paving equipment that dislodged an exterior wall and moved it 4-6", buckling the interior wall. VBS completely exposed the interior wall, repaired the damage, re plastered it and painted the whole downstairs. They had rolled the carpeting back for the repairs and re stretched it, then shampooed it. Outside they matched our siding perfectly after repairing the sheathing, and re sided the whole side of house. Work was started on time and repairs completed quickly, with good coordination of various sub contractors. I would use them again if any house repairs needed.

Our home sustained damage from a tree limb during a wind/rain storm. Within 24 hours, Virginia Building Services of Roanoke, Inc. had arranged removal of the limb and had placed a tarp on the roof. The employees were very supportive and knowledgeable of the repairs needed. They communicated when work would be done and what to expect. They made sure we were satisfied with each repair, matching our existing materials and left our house clean at the end of each day. They were courteous, efficient and respectful of our time and privacy. I would highly recommend them to anyone!
