I have been seen by this provider since I was 4 years old. I was most recently seen in June of 2011 at which time they participated with my insurance (they no longer do). They called and verified my insurance. I received an eye exam and glasses for which I paid my $175.00 in copays. After about a year, I began to receive statements for the remaining balance of $243. I contacted them on several occasions and they stated that the insurance was not paying the claim but did not have a reason. I contacted my insurance company on several occasions and was told they had never received the claim. As of this date, I have been told by the insurance company that becuase of the office's lack of follow through and time filing issues the only way to get the claim paid is for the office to send an appeal. I have spoken with the office manager, [redacted] who has told me that that an appeal has been sent and the claim is still denied. When I asked her to provide me with a copy of this appeal she said she could not do that becuase the original had been sent to the insurance company. I do not believe an appeal was sent because when I talked to the insurance company today they had no record of it.I myself have, in the past, done medical billing and have filed many appeals and when the fault of the nonpayment of a claim fell on our office, as in this case, the amount was written off as a loss because of our error as we were a participating provider and per our contract were not permitted to collect excess monies from the patient. I am being sent to collections for the remaining balance becuase this office refuses to do their job. I should not have my credit ruined because this office does not want to follow through on a claim due to the fact they no longer participate with the insurance and feel they can wash their hands of it. I will not be bullied into paying for their mistake with the threat of collection.I hope you can help with the resolution of this matter.Sincerely,[redacted]
