We spent over $10,000 for Vista shutters for our new home after the Oakland Hills fire. They're beautiful! Our annoying problem started a few years after they were installed, and it continues to get worse. The nylon pins on each side of each louvrer extend from the louver into the shutter frame, allowing the louver to swivel up and down, to open and close the shutter. Those pins deteriorate with age, and especially on the sunny side of the house, leaving the louvrer slanting--not parallel to the other slats in the panel. At this time, 20+ years after installation, we're replacing a pin about once a week. It's a ticklish, time-consuming process, and there's no redress from Vista. Because they're so fragile, we're constantly apprehensive about opening or closing the shutters. Anyone considering purchasing Vista shutters should ask for specifics, and assurance that this problem won't come up with their purchase. In their defense, I will say that the company has sent me replacement parts, and referred me to a shutter repair company which may make permanent repairs. I believe that would be prohibitively costly.
