We were looking to have a stump removed from our front yard and had John come out to give us an estimate. He was very pleasant on the phone, but when he showed up, he was very rude and insulting. He told us that the stump grinder that he would have to use cost him $70k and to have one stump removed from our yard he said that he wouldn't touch it for anything less then $1000. My dad is a retired arborist from The City of Milwaukee. Before we even started calling around, we had asked him what we should expect to pay. He gave us a ball park estimate. $1000 is outrageous for size of the stump we need removed. After calling around and getting a few more estimates, we are having the stump removed today for $200. That is about what we expected to pay.
