Review: This company prepared an extension for an estate tax return for me and claimed to have done most of the preparatory work for the actual estate return, which they said could not be filed in October of 2013 because government tax forms had not been finalized at that time. They billed me $5,730 for these services, which I paid. When I was forced to change attorneys in late February of this year, I had to change accounting services and my new attorney and I requested that they forward the work product they had created so that the new accounting person could complete the filing of the estate tax return. Volkman refused to do so after verbal and written requests from my attorney, forcing the new accounting firm to redo the work Volkman claims to have done and billed me for. They also refused to provide an itemized bill for the services they claim to have rendered. In addition, on the extension form they prepared, there was a missing line item which should have been included if the work they claim they did had actually been done. We believe they "guestimated" the amount of tax due and as a result I will owe additional taxes and a penalty.Desired Settlement: I think I should be reimbursed in full since I received no work product except the extension form (which was missing a calculation) and my new attorney/accountant was forced to redo all the work that Volkman claims to have done because the Estate taxes had to be filed by April **, 2014. My attorney and I seriously doubt whether the work was ever done. In addition, since I need to file an accounting of the estate with the NY State Attorney General, I cannot justify paying for the same work twice.
