I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowFebruary 12,
Hello ***,
I received the response from Thinh *** stating that the
Volvo San Diego dealer does not admit to any wrongdoing and willing to refund
my $in an effort to promote customer service
I reject that offer at this time for the following reasons:
Last week a representative from Bureau of Automotive Repair
Agency came out to inspect my car and I will wait for his report due to:
1.
Upon
inspection of my car we found all the parts on top of the engine were just
sitting there and nothing had screws in it and was not secured, which may have
caused more damage to my car and the reason the whole dashboard lit up and the
Power System Unit came on with the car shutting down, not getting any gas and
steering not working after I picked it upI had to have it towed home that
night when I got off work
2.
Not putting my car back together properly and
securing parts endangered my life and the car could have stopped while I was on
the freeway and could have been detrimental
I will wait for the inspector’s report to ensure there is no
further damage to my car due to not securing parts and inadequate mechanic and
service representative
Respectfully
yours,
Patricia

Customer comes in on 6/14/for a check engine light concern He was told with code ECMthat the boost pressure and barometric sensor needs replacement for that code to go away We replaced both sensors as per customer’s request and vehicle left dealership with a total
bill of $853, for that concern only On 6/20/2014, vehicle came back to San Diego Volvo with codes ECMfor the check engine light regarding a broken hose to the intercooler We replaced the hose at no labor charge to *** He paid $for the parts only *** called ***, SDV’s advisor, back on 7/1/stating his vehicle will not pass smog and check engine light is back onVehicle came back into SDV and was diagnosed with code ECM13, mass air flow sensor signal too low *** ‘s only concern at that point was to smog vehicle and had told SDV that the vehicle did not set “readiness” in the computer system SDV then decided to perform VEMS software upgrade to set “Readiness” for client, vehicle’s ECM, failed and vehicle would not start The process of waking up the system is long and tedious The end result was the ECM failed and SDV needed to replace it As of 8/15/2014, San Diego Volvo has installed the ECM, performed its software reload and set “Readiness” for *** at no charge *** already has vehicle back, ready for him to bring to a Star or Test Only smog station As of today, we have not heard from *** concerning the repairs.
We are do not understand why *** is requesting $back considering he has only spent less than $for the check engine light concern with San Diego Volvo We have already repaired the check engine light and did not charge for the “Readiness” test, a $value

STAY AWAY FROM SAN DIEGO VOLVO
If you’re looking to buy a used XCor car in general from San Diego Volvo, I implore you to read this story
I purchased a used Volvo XCTAWD Premier SUV from San Diego Volvo in I spent an extra $for an extended CPO warranty, and another $for the Enhancer Plus paint and interior warrantyShortly after purchasing the vehicle I noticed the transmission was not shifting properlyOver the course of a year, scheduling a half dozen drop off and pick ups, Volvo of San Diego, denied any issue with the vehicle and refused to make any repairs I had to demand that a regional service technician come out an inspection my vehicle When the technician arrived, I was denied any access to the individual and the local service technician falsified the vehicles problems during the inspection Insinuating the problem lay with the driver not the vehicleI was allowed no follow up I wrote three letters to department heads within the Volvo of Northern America corporation, relaying my concerns I received one call back, stating they were going to stand by the assessment of their regional technician
I had the car inspected by an outside ASE certified master mechanic, from a very well known shop in Escondido Their assessment was that the valve body and all six shifting solenoids needed to be replaced, confirming there indeed was a mechanical malfunctionWhen confronted by this information, San Diego Volvo still refused to take any action
I was preparing documents to file a small claims lawsuit when I noticed the clear coat on the vehicle was degrading I filed a claim with Enhancer Plus under the paint warranty They sent my vehicle to Bumper Bumper in Kearney MesaThe first time they had my car they only completed half the work, and damaged my vehicle There are stains on the seat, overspray on the mirrors, dents and scratches on almost every panel Enhancer asked that I return the car to have the problems corrected The second time Bumper to Bumper had my vehicle for a month, barely finished the original warranty work, fixed none of the damage and added new damage When Enhancer learned that the repairs for the damage from a credible shop was in excess of $6000, they refused any further assistanceBumper Bumper refused to provide any insurance information and I was forced to file a claim through my own provider
When I learned that San Diego Volvo was interested in buying my vehicle back, nothing gave me more joy than to sell it back to them, transmission and body damage in allThis is a highly condensed version, I will be more than happy to provide any further details if it saves anyone the stress of what our family has had to deal with Thank you for reading
PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM SAN DIEGO VOLVO AND THIS USED XC

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear belowthe business is failing to accept any responsibly for their actions and negligence with my vehicle repairs or rectify the situation in any wayAlso, many of there facts are incorrect such as it being two weeks after the repairs when it was one week and two days And I only put on miles, the repairs should hold that amountThese details are important to the timeline of my car breaking downThe fact that the business is unwilling to make any good faith effort is unacceptable.

Thank you for your quick response.
To whom it may concern, 08-22-
I took my car in for service to the Kearney Mesa Volvo on 05-31-I spoke to advisor *** Alonzo
and I explained what the problem with my car was and he quoted me with $ 1,which I agreed to
and paid, he also said he would need to keep my car for days so I asked if I can get a car rental for
those days, he said he can give me one but that they would only cover one day as courtesy but I would
be responsible for the remaining days , which I didn’t acceptAs the days went by the service
Department called me to inform me that my car was ready for me to pick up, so I picked it up and like
about miles from leaving the dealer my “ check engine “ light turns on along with a loud noise
coming from the passenger side I called *** and told him what had happened so he suggested I
take the car back to the service department, so I did and ended up leaving my car an additional days
During this time frame I get a call from *** to inform me that they found another problem, that the
key got stuck in the ignition and the battery was not working anymore, so it would be an additional $
to fix the key and replace the battery which I refused to pay due to the fact that I gave them the
key in their hands and the battery was fineA couple days after that call I went to pick up my car and he
told me that since I didn’t want to pay the $ they just left the key in the ignition and my dead
battery Bottomline is that they didn’t fix the issue with the key or the battery because I refuse to pay
for something that they didI took my car home under those conditions along with the problem that I
initially took it for unresolvedI called *** “ AGAIN “ and he asked me to take the car back that this
time for sure he will have it fix but it will take time“ What do you mean you will have it fix this time,
what happened before “ was my response to this comment He just smiled so I asked him how much
more time does he need so I can coordinate transportation for that timeI offered him a month but he
insisted he would only need one more week, so I agreed
A week passed and nothing so I decided to call the second week to find out the status of my car, it turns
out that the mechanic that was working on my car got fired because he messed up on my car to the
point that now my car is not even turning on and since my car hasn’t been fixed he felt there was no
need to call me and let me know
I went to the agency to pick up some papers that I had left in my car that I needed, as I arrive Gaspar
told me about the problem with my car and it not turning on anymore , at this point they still don’t
know the cause, he stated that they even changed some parts hoping that would work but were
unsuccessful He actually took me to the mechanic that will now be taking care of my car I believe his
name is John and all he said to me was that he didn’t know what the other mechanic did to my car and
since he got fired there is no way to find out, so he would have to start from scratch againI then again
asked about the car rental thinking they would give it to me as courtesy for their mistake but I was
unsuccessful again
Two months have passed nowOn 07-25-I called asking to get a refund of all the money I have paid
due to the stress and inconvenience this has caused, they are obviously admitting to being at fault or
else they wouldn’t have fired the mechanic , but he insist that was not the reason the mechanic got fired
but why would the mechanic working on my car now and *** tell me thatAs you can see there is
something suspicious going on and I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS SITUATION because they got me
going around and nobody seems to know nothing
All I am asking for is for these people to get their act together, refund my money and fix my carHe
stated that this time he would have my car ready by 07-30-to my luck it wasn’t ready until 08-12-
I actually got a call to pick up but because of work reasons and transportation I wasn’t able to pick
up until 08-15-which he was ok withWhen I got there on 08-15-@ about they handed
me my keys, even though I was furious and disappointed I said Thank YouWhen I got inside my car I
noticed they had left the panels on the seat and all the trash as well, so I told *** that I found that to
be mean and disrespectful, my car was ready since 08-but I didn’t pick up until 08-15-meaning
they had an additional days to put the panels back in place and throw out their trashThey did put the
panels back and threw out the trash but kept me there waiting until only to find out that the
panels were not placed properly and to top it off the door has a dent which didn’t have before and all
the electric from the left side is not working ( mirror, windows, locks ) he said that had nothing to do
with what they did to my car, but when I brought my car in it got inspected and everything was working
so don’t tell me it had nothing to do with that
I am very frustrated and at this point so upset with the bad service and the negligence so all I am asking
for once again is to get my money reimbursed, attached are the copies of the invoices of what I had paid
with an additional $ 1,credit for car rental that I had to pay out of pocket for your mistake
Thank You,

We have no record of the installation of an aftermarket part that would invalidate coverage by Volvo Cars of NA for any normally covered repairsWe are not accusing anybody of lying or providing misleading
information about this issueWe are simply stating that after years we cannot be held responsible for the failure of something on the car that we have no knowledgeHad this been brought to our attention
at the onset of the purchase, we would have taken the appropriate steps to replace the part in questionWe have never been informed of any issue with the car for the entire ownership periodAt this point, we believe it is in the best interest of the owner to agree to utilize the arbitration services of the Revdex.com so that the facts can be evaluated by an independent third party

- 45k mile Young Volvo
- 27 visits to San Diego Volvo in 4 years
- 4 batteries in 3 years
- Expensive Repairs and unnecessary maintenance and parts replacement like O2 sensor were aggressively pushed on us that were not needed. Confirmed by an expert Volvo mechanic with over 30 years experience.
- tried to reach owner 6+ times. Finally did and he pretty much told me with lots of attitude to go elsewhere or trade in my car without reviewing the history of car
- Took my car to another mechanic down the street. Fixed the car on first attempt and car is running like new. You can read my review on them.
- Was extremely patient with San Diego Volvo but they made zero effort to make this right.

Called for appt for car service, I tried to explain the person what was wrong with the car and what I needed help with.He said to just come in and that they should be able to run the car through the computer and tell me a diagnosis. Got the appt for 2 days after at 2PM, go to appt, and it was not in the system. I was told there was no walk -ins whats so ever was what I was told over the phone. Only 2 spanish speaking service consultors. The only reason why I made it to actually talk to the consultant (because my appt was not in the system) was because over the phone the person I spoke to told me that the best guy to come and talk to was [redacted]. Because this is not a common name they believed me. As we sat down on this other guys desk, this guy never even greated me or my father and was just typing on the computer. He asked what was wrong with the car without even making eye contact. My father explained what was going on with the car, and when this person finally had the courtasy of loking at us, he was rolling his eyes at us and disrespectfully interupted my father. He told us that the car needed a diagnosis and that for that my car should of been here at 7am. To make an appointment and come back some other time. I told him that the person who I spoke to over the phone told me come at this time. Then he sat there quietly and totally ifnored both my father and I. So my father and I got up and stepped out of the office. I was really concetned because I really need my car to get fixed. We drove about 20 miles with my car not in good conditions, and took half of my workday off to come to thid appt. As I was outside I looked for another Volvo dealer and try to set another appt somewhere else. While on the phone I turned back and I see the secretary and the person that was helping me looking out the window and making fun of me and or situation. It was non stop, like 2 children . As I ended my phone call, I wrnt back inside and asked the secretary for the supervisor and or manager of the store. She looked a bit concern and picked up the phone. I have never in my life felt to humiliated, asshamed, discriminated in my life. My father could not believe their behaivior. The supervisor came outside and asked what had happened, I started explaining and I started crying. He appoligized for their behaivior and asked how he can help us. I said that I just wanted to let him know the kind of behaivior and bad treatment I received. I also told him that I had already schedule an appt with another dealer. As we thanked him for his time, my father rurned my car on and the supercisor heard the car in a bad shape and called it out. We drove off.

We have completed our final review of Mr. [redacted]’s repair and service records. On June 14, 2014 Mr. [redacted] brought his 2000 Volvo V40 with 142,045 miles into San Diego Volvo with a check engine light  concern. He also had a second complaint about a noise on the right side of the engine. This unrelated repair required the replacement of an engine pulley/tensioner.  Both of these concerns were addressed and repaired. The check engine light repair was $853 plus tax and the tensioner repair was for $295 plus tax. He paid for both repairs and picked up his car on June 18, 2014.
On June 20, 2014 Mr. [redacted] returned to San Diego Volvo with the engine light on again. It was determined that there was a broken intercooler hose. That line was replaced. Mr. [redacted] only paid for the part for $15 plus tax when he picked up his car the same day.
On July 1, 2014, the car was returned again to San Diego Volvo with the check engine light on again and unable to pass a smog test. While the diagnostic procedures were being performed, the Engine Control Module(ECM) failed. The delay in repair at this point was due to our technical staff following the recommended Volvo factory protocol when assessing damage to the ECM. Ultimately, the ECM was replaced and the necessary downloads completed at no cost to Mr. [redacted] by Volvo Cars of North America.  Mr. [redacted] picked up his repaired car on August 15, 2014.
We have no other record of repairs of Mr. [redacted]s 2000 Volvo V40. However, after further review of the situation and to recognize the frustrations Mr. [redacted] experienced in completing the repair to the check engine light we are prepared to refund Mr [redacted] the cost of this repair and the related repairs for the check engine light problem. The total of our refund would be $868 plus tax.

Sincerely,

Mr. [redacted] came in to Volvo San Diego (VSD) on 11/14/2014 at 5:36 PM requesting for 82500 mile service along with the concern on a "sluggish" start.  Approval of $185.00 was given at that time for the routine maintenance.  Client was called back on 11/15/2014 at 12:35 with recommendations for engine battery.  Verbal approval was given at that time to adviser [redacted] for a total of $385.00.
Mr. [redacted] came back in a little under two months later on 01/05/2015 at 7:08 am with a concern of something 'hanging" down.   Service Adviser [redacted] called back at 10:21 am on 1/05/2015 to inform of broken  sway bar due to impact.  He recommends replacement of link rods along with sway bar replacement and alignment totaling $955.00. Mr. [redacted] gave verbal agreement during that phone call.
Volvo San Diego, at this time, will not be refunding Mr. [redacted] his money for the services performed above.
