In early 2009, after numerous issues with WSECU's service including deposits that were short and poor handling of my money by branch employees, I visited the Eastlake (Seattle) branch to close all of my WSECU accounts. I asked the branch teller to "close all of my accounts, and if there is a negative on any account or anything I owe please tell me and I will pay for it now. Close everything". Unbeknownst to me, they closed my checking and savings account but left my visa account open even though it was part of my personal checking account. This was a mistake on their part because I was very clear on closing every account I had with WSECU.

At that time the visa had a ~$50 balance on it. After leaving the branch I had no way of knowing there was a balance on the visa card or that they hadn't closed it because I was no longer receiving paper statements in the mail and was unable to log into my old accounts because they had been closed.

Skip ahead three months to May 29, 2009. I received a letter in the mail from [redacted] and [redacted] indicating that I had an outstanding debt to WSECU in the amount of $477. This was the original small balance on the card + late fees + interest on the late fees that ballooned it up to over $400. I was shocked, after I had implicitly stated to the Eastlake branch teller that I wanted ALL accounts closed.

I never received any bills or bank statements on that visa card after I closed my accounts, either electronic or by mail.

Although I should not have been liable for that ballooned payment in the first place, after expecting that all of my accounts had been closed as I had requested, I went ahead and paid the $494.78 to [redacted] and [redacted] I made the payment by phone, by debit card, to a [redacted] at XXX-XXX-XXXX on 9/21/09. I was not given a confirmation number at that time but the debit to [redacted] and [redacted] appears on my bank statement and they have a record of the payment made by me.

Skip ahead 11 months to March 10, 2010. I received a letter in the mail from [redacted] a collection agency, indicating I had an outstanding debt to WSECU for $596.51. This was shock #2.

I called WSECU to dispute the collection numerous times over the course of three years, and finally, in August of 2013 I received a letter from [redacted] of the member solutions department, agreeing to correct their mistake with the credit reporting agencies, with the correction: 'Update WSECU 0608-01. To Report as Charge-off Paid in Full as of March 2009. ' I was told by [redacted] that the [redacted] collection would be removed from all three credit reports by the fall of 2013.

This did not happen. The erroneous collection is still on my Transunion and Equifax reports.

I discovered this, (shock #3), when I was recently denied for an auto loan and pulled my reports.

All of these issues, from the very beginning, have occurred because of ongoing, repeated mistakes on the part of WSECU's employees, and I should not be in this position now of having damaged credit.
