Wahl Family Heating, Cooling & Plumbing Reviews (13)

I have had Wahl Heating & Cooling maintain my furnace and AC for the last several years. They do a good job, are efficient and informative. Chuck answered my questions and was very professional.

Jim B. and his young apprentice, Tim. They explained things in a manner that I could understand. They were efficient and personable. What started as a routine PM call become much more. He gave me several options and detailed why each was important. When the ultimate decision was made as to our course of action, I felt confident it was the right direction for our purposes.

Chuck F. was very knowledgeable and helpful in helping us choose the correct replacements for our a/c unit and our furnace. Both were older and needed replaced with more efficient products. Chuck was extremely helpful without being pushy.
The crew that came in to do the work was great. Bob L. along with Don and Jacob were pleasant, professional, efficient, and polite. My basement and backyard was cleaned so well you would not know work was done. Everything was explained and they did not leave until they were sure I understood everything. Couldn't be happier with our choice of companies.

We purchased a furnace and had central air installed in our home in 2011. The installation technicians and subsequent yearly service maintenance technicians sent to our home were professional, courteous and informative. This review is being written specifically for the yearly maintenance check of our furnace in December, 2015. The service technician was Chuck F. It was the first time he had come to our home. Simply put.... EXCELLENT! We will be requesting him for all future maintenance checks of our heating and cooling systems. He also had honest recommendations about our water heater that had been installed by another company.

As always, Wahl Family Heating, Cooling and Plumbing delivers GREAT service. This company is very responsive and helpful. Questions are always answered, service calls are always within the window of time provided. The service technician was professional and efficient and all options explained fully.

Wahl has been maintaining our heating and cooling systems now for a couple of years and just installed a new AC as our heat pump was end-of-life. They were very professional, cost, timing, quality was exactly what I expected and [redacted] was very personable as well. I would recommend them to anyone.

Patrick Z did an excellent job explaining four repair options on our furnace and air conditioning unit. Once we chose the option that made the most sense to us (no pressure to choose the highest priced option) he proceeded to complete the repair quickly and efficiently. This was one of the best service calls we have experienced.

Review: This service tech. Inspected my air cond, & furnace [redacted], & informed me that the repair would be $2674.34 for a power surge damageCircuit board & blower motor, my insurance company sent a repair tech. To verify the damage, & found that nothing wrong with those parts, no power surge it will be repaired by them for $170.00 a blower modal, quit a difference , don't you agree, they must get a commission for this sort of scam.Desired Settlement: None

Response:

On 5/25/14 we responded to a service call that Mr. [redacted]’s furnace wasn’t working. Upon arrival our technician completed what we call our “Observation and Findings sheet” (attached) where we right down in the customer’s own words what the problem is. The customer told our technician that he had a power surge. He said that the furnace was working fine before he had left to go out of state. He said that when he got home a storm hit and he had a “power surge”. He described a large lightening flash, a loud boom, and said the breaker tripped and his furnace stopped working. *On the bottom of our first page we recommended that the home owner call his insurance company to pay for the damages based on the information that he had given us.

The initial problem was that the furnace was not operational. We performed our diagnostics and saw that there was no power coming out of the board. This means that we have a bad motor, or module, or control board. Due to the back story of the “power surge” we reasoned that it was likely that all three parts were affected by the same current. Rather than take a chance and replace them piece by piece, which is more expensive and customers typically find very inefficient, we recommended replacing all three parts.

*I can’t tell if Mr. [redacted] is saying that the insurance company is having their contractor fix the furnace by replacing the motor or the module (spelled modal which could be either) for $170 but either way he isn’t comparing apples to apples. I know that because Trane sells the factory OEM parts for between $300 and $600 each (depending on which part they are having replaced). How could they charge $170 for a repair when the part costs at least twice that? I have to assume that the low price tag means one of two things happened. Either the contractor installed a used part that they didn't have to pay for, or they used a generic part which is not approved by Trane for use in their units. Either option is NOT much of a bargain long term.

Our technician is a Trane Comfort Consultant with more than 25 years in the business. Aside from trying to prevent future breakdowns by providing a quote to replace all components related to the failure he also tried to help them prevent future surges by quoting a whole house surge arrestor and by trying to help him get back the labor warranty coverage that he had lost due to lack of maintenance. He even tried to help the customer get some assistance paying for the repairs by recommended that the customer calls his insurance company. This seems to be a situation where an insurance company doesn’t want to pay for something and the company that is actually trying to help gets bashed in the process. We stand behind our diagnostics and would be more than willing to work with Mr. [redacted] if he hasn’t had the work done yet or when he has problems with his equipment in the future.

Please contact me with any additional questions.

Thank You,

excellent service. very thorough in explaining the problem and solution. highly recommended.

Written action plan, Clean work site, exceptional staff, used them many times before and when needed will use them again.

Review: I contacted [redacted] for furnace repair; they connected me with Wahl. A service man ([redacted]) came within the hour. He simply looked at my furnace, said it was over 30 years old, and without turning my furnace on, that my heating core was bad and I needed a new furnace. He gave me an estimate for over $3800 to install new unit, and to repair heating core: also over $3800. I said I believed it was just the blower because the heating core would turn on and blow, but that it would cut off when the motor got too hot. I asked about cost for blower repair & that cost was over $1300. I asked him what was the break down with installing a new unit. He said: $1,000 labor, over $2800 for new unit. I stated that I could purchase a unit from [redacted] for $1099. He stated (and called someone on his cell phone to verify) that [redacted] was not allowed by law to sell me a furnace; that they could only sell to licensed HVAC installers. I told [redacted] that I had a late family member who purchased a furnace from [redacted] and installed it himself. He insisted that it couldn't be done. I excused my self for a moment, got on the computer and put a furnace from homedepot.com into my basket (I just had to click "submit order" to have it delivered to my home for free). When I told [redacted] that I could indeed buy the unit myself if I needed a new furnace and have someone install it, he got on his cell phone to get me a price for labor if Wahl were to install a furnace that I purchase. Well, the labor was now over $2800!?! I suspected that this company's sole purpose was to install a new furnace whether I needed one or not! Well, after I called a retired gentleman whom I've known for years and he fixed my furnace within a few hours - parts: blower shaft and bearings: $54.44, (that's with tax) and labor: $250.00; total price to fix my furnace: $304.44, a mere fraction of what Wahl wanted to "take" me for - now I know my suspicions were correct! Irony was, I had to pay $99 for an attempted fleecing by Wahl Heating & Cooling!!!Desired Settlement: I would like Wahl to acknowledge this and make sure that people (like myself) are not charged a $99 fee on top of a ridiculous estimate(s)- and, if necessary, a refund of $99.

Response:

Wahl responded to the service call on 2/10/14. The price for us to come out and diagnose the unit is $99. Repairs, cleanings, etc. are an additional charge. Her claim that we did not perform diagnostics on the unit is incorrect. The technician stated that the motor was running but the fan would not spin and the furnace would not fire. He determined that the blower motor was bad, along with the shaft and bushings. (Paper work attached)

This company is a complete rip off. They initially charged us $99 for what I would call an estimate. They came out and told us it would cost $513.92 JUST to fill our radiators with water, So after everything is said and done it would cost a whopping $612.92, for what? A job that takes an hour to do, maybe two? On top of that, they tried selling us a small baseboard radiator for $700, And guess what? I priced the exact same model for $200, but wait there's more, the installation would have cost an additional $1000. I'm telling you all this, so you can save yourself the initial $99, and find a company that isn't trying to rob you blindly. I'm not the only one with this complaint on here, it's obvious the 5 star reviews on here are coming from the owners and friends of this company.

Good overall and he took the time to answer questions
