WAKA Group Reviews (%countItem)

I wrote this letter to Club Waka detailing our complaints. I put X's where there would be personal information.

To whom it may concern -

I am writing you on the behalf of “***” in regard to the concerns we have about the DFW kickball Thursdays at Peak Preparatory and Mandee ***, League Commissioner. I have participated in 3 other kickball leagues and KickballWAKA is the most poorly ran and unprofessional league. The season was pushed back 3 weeks, one of which was due to lights not working. We just finished our second game and three of the four lights work. Even with the fourth light they do not provide adequate lighting on the field to see the ball, which is very unsafe. The fields we play on, are soccer fields. The fields are in poor condition with holes in them, which could cause injury. They use vinyl bases, which are slippery and very dangerous. We paid $72+/person. Our team alone paid close to $1000 to play in this league. I think at the very least that would afford us the basics to play our leagues on a softball field with proper lighting and real bases. We have never been asked to ref our own games in past leagues. We paid a good amount of money for this league, I do not see the need for us to block our Thursday night to play, ref, and participate in social aspects of the league.

The League Commissioner, Mandee. Upon first meeting her, she provided us with the rules of the game and detailed the need to have respect for herself, players, and refs and that poor behavior would not be tolerated. I feel if we are expected to uphold those standards so should she. She has been argumentative with other players and teams; the rules are ever changing when she is head ref. She is drinking alcohol and seemingly inebriated, on her cell phone, and more into the music when she should be paying attention to the game. She has to be corrected on the number of outs and runs multiple times throughout a game. She brings a large speaker and parks it behind home plate, and blast loud inappropriate music on elementary school grounds in a neighborhood. Many players have difficulty hearing during game play due to loud music. We have had music in past leagues, but we have also had a dugout on a softball field and each team plays their own music, which does not impact the plays of the game. She also sends emails the day of, making changes to the times of the games, which shows little respect for our personal time.

Our team is here to have a fun and safe time. Per ClubWAKA core values, “Live Fun; Do The Right Thing; Family First; and Strength In Community.” ClubWAKA is falling short on their core values with this league. To resolve the problem, we would appreciate you refund the money for each of the players on the “***” team. Going forward, please consider reviewing some of these complaints and making changes to improve the quality of future kickball leagues in the DFW area.

We look forward to hearing from you on this issue prior to the next game. If we do not hear from you, we will seek resolution from a consumer protection agency, the Revdex.com, and make our complaints known through various social media outlets. I can be reached by phone after 4:30pm CST at *** or anytime by email at

WAKA Group Response • Dec 20, 2019

Please see below for a response to the complaint including a timeline and detailed responses to the list of complaints for this social league. We are sorry that this person did not have a good experience for the 8 weeks of games, social events, and other organized items for under $10 per week. We strive to over a great experience but understand that we are not always the right service for everyone.
Talked to Company: 12/*/2019
Sorry but we have no record of a communication to the company on this date.
Talked to Company (2nd): 12//2019
The company received a Facebook message, to which we replied and offered a direct line of communication for resolving issues.
CLUBWAKA also tried to respond to the Facebook page where the original complaint was lodged, but could not because the page was deleted.
The company received the complaint to our general information email box and that was forwarded to the area manager

Talked to Company (***): 12//2019
*** contacted the company for follow up and the company responded approximately 2 hours later with the following.

***The season was pushed back 3 weeks, one of which was due to lights not working.
The reason for the delay was due to rain in the area. This is an outdoor activity and therefore not something the company can control.
We just finished our second game and three of the four lights work. Even with the fourth light they do not provide adequate lighting on the field to see the ball, which is very unsafe.
The company can provide pictures of the location. We have been playing in this location for 7 years and have not had complaints about the lighting. Also another youth soccer group plays at this location, they also have no issue with lighting.
The fields we play on, are soccer fields. The fields are in poor condition with holes in them, which could cause injury.
The field is located at preparatory school and that school is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of this location for their students. CLUBWAKA does assume that the field is in proper working order, but is happy to help repair any specific areas that are shown to us versus a general statement of poor field conditions.
They use vinyl bases, which are slippery and very dangerous.
This is the standard set of equipment used by all of our leagues across the country.
We paid $72+/person. Our team alone paid close to $1000 to play in this league. I think at the very least that would afford us the basics to play our leagues on a softball field with proper lighting and real bases.
All location specifics are available prior to signing up with the league.
We have never been asked to ref our own games in past leagues. We paid a good amount of money for this league, I do not see the need for us to block our Thursday night to play, ref, and participate in social aspects of the league.
All policies of self reffing games is available on our site prior to registration. Self-reffing is a proven way to increase community among the league and players. Community involvement is one of the hallmarks of our company.
CLUBWAKA is dedicated to being different from other leagues.
The League Commissioner, Mandee. Upon first meeting her, she provided us with the rules of the game and detailed the need to have respect for herself, players, and refs and that poor behavior would not be tolerated… The complainant goes on to make personal attacks on the staff member in regards to being distracted and being on her phone.
The staff member in question had a fever and may have been distracted
The staff member was using a referee app to track the game
The complainant goes on to note the music at the fields.
CLUBWAKA is a social sports club. While we organize and play sports games, one of the main reasons for the group is to make friends and have fun.
The music is controlled by the players not by the company staff.
We are happy to address these complaints further and *** can reach out to me directly.

Further follow up was done between the team captain, the league organizer and the rest of the team to resolve issues. CLUBWAKA is not aware of any other team member requesting a refund other than ***. Also, here is our stated refund policy that *** agreed to when registering.
Refund Policy
CLUBWAKA does not offer refunds once you have registered for a league season, with the following exceptions:
- the season is canceled before official league play begins
- medical incapacity before the start of the league season (requires a doctor's note to local customer service representative)
- call-ups to military service before the start of the league season (requires documentation to local customer service representative)
By completing your registration, you agree to CLUBWAKA's Refund Policy.

This company advertised a co-ed flag football season. Through complete lack of communication and lack of players to support the league they advertised, they ended up cancelling the season. My flag football team captain sent the league coordinator 4 separate emails requesting an update on if the season was rescheduled or if they were refunding. After the 2nd email with no response, our captain requested a complete refund for all of us players on the team. 15 players were on our team and we all paid $89 to play this season. Captain sent the last 2 emails explaining that our entire team is no longer choosing to play waka sports anymore and we all want a refund. 1 week later we got an email acknowledging they had lack of communication but didn't address any of our issues. MANY of our players have reached out with no response other than acknowledging our email. We will be refusing to use this company anymore and we want our money back. Refusing to do business with them again after all of this, would like my money back for failure to provide contracted services of a co-ed flag football season.

WAKA Group Response • Oct 07, 2019

I am sorry that we failed to get this season of Flag Football up and running. We ran into a few things that just created low registration numbers forcing us to cancel the league last minute. I understand the frustration this has caused you and the rest of your team members and for that we appologize. Our original staffer running this scheduled league had other obligations and resigned just one week prior to the start of the season. CLUBWAKA worked to find a replacement in the days leading up the the start of the league but unfortunately we were not successful in our ability to find enough people to fill out the minimum number of teams to create a great experience for you and the other players. We will be processing refunds for the entire league and all players. Refunds will be processed on the card or payment method that each individual used (ie Credit card, paypal, etc)If you have any questions in the meantime please feel free to reach out. You can email, text or call me any time.***
