Wake Internal Medicine Consultants, Inc. Reviews (2)

The incorrect billing codes were used for my visit and as a result my health insurance did not cover my visit. On 05/14/2016, I called and scheduled an appointment to have my annual pap smear done. During this conversation I asked the rep if it was possible to remove the IUD during this appointment and the representative stated that that would be fine. So I scheduled the appointment on 05/16/2016 to have the procedure done. While at the appoint my new physician [redacted] (My old physician retired and I had an appointment in the system to come in April but it was cancelled because he was no longer there). While at the appointment [redacted] convinced me to keep my IUD in and asked me if I was having problems with it and if that was the reason I wanted to get it removed. I expressed a few concerns with my IUD after having it in a year and I finally gave in and decided to keep it in. So she proceeded with my annual pap smear and advised me that she would send my swab over to lab (which is normal when you have a pap smear). About 2 weeks ago I checked my mailbox and I was billed for my annual pap smear because the codes were in as a professional visit instead of a routine Pap smear visit. I immediately called Wake Internal Medicine XXX-XXX-XXXX and left a message on [redacted] voicemail. She called me back the next day and stated that she would look into with the doctor. She called me back and informed me that I did not have a pap smear I had complications with my IUD and that was the reason for my bill (I received a bill for $120 and another bill from the company that run the tests on the swab for about $180). I explained to her that the visit was triggered by my annual pap smear and that I didn't even have my IUD removed during this visit. She stated that she would have the doctor contact me, and days passed by. I called again on Friday 08/12/2016 left a message on her phone and did not get a returned call. So I called the scheduling department just to ask about my appointment on 05/16/2016 and the representative stated that she saw in the system that it was for a pap smear and to get the IUD removed. She stated that she couldn't help me with this though and she would need to get me to Patient Accounts, which was back to [redacted] I explained to her that she has not called me back so I left another message on her phone and it has been a few days and I have yet to get a call back.Desired SettlementI would like for them to completely erase this bill off of my record because it is currently in collections with a third party agency due to their error. Also, update the codes on the bill so that when it is billed to my insurance it is as a pap smear.Business Response We agree that there was an error with her billing and wrote off the balance on 8-26-16. Please call me if you have any questions. [redacted] XXX-XXX-XXXX ext. [redacted]

I was told the procedure is covered by BCBS and now I have to pay around $170.00.This is what is on their website, "Most insurance carriers will cover the cost of Hyaluronic Acid Injections. We will check with your carrier PRIOR to performing the injections." Since they told me at the beginning I don't have to pay and during the first and second visits I went to the cashier to pay my co-pay of $35.00 and he said I don't have to pay. I went for 3 visits and later on I got a bill of $40.00 and I asked them specifically that if I pay the bill I owed them nothing anymore and she said yes. After weeks, I received another bill $130.58 and they said I have to pay it and even spoke to the manager to no avail. They know how much BCBS pay, for I am not the first patient they had. I had the same injection with Triangle Orthopedic and all I have to pay was the co-pay. They should have been forthright. I do not blame them the procedure was a failure since they told me at the beginning it may or may not work. What I asked is they should be honest of the cost and let the patient decide. No surprises. Desired SettlementThe one $130.85 should be cut into half for failure to inform me of the true cost prior to procedure.Business Response /[redacted]/The patient's insurance DID cover the procedure but covering a procedure does not mean he is not responsible for any co-ins or deductible, which is the case here.Consumer Response /[redacted]/Again, They did not refute that they failed to inform me of how much will cost PRIOR to procedure and that is what they advertised in their website . Am I the first patient they have under BCBS that they do not know how much the patient deductible is? Not even approximation? Or intentionally not tell me for I might not agree to proceed? No wonder thay do not want to accept my co-pay of $35.00 when I offered to them at the beginning because a bigger payment is lurking in the dark. The guy said, don't worry they will file it with the insurance. That is an opportunity for them to tell me how much will I expect to pay and then decide if I will continue with the next 2 procedures. They could have been frank to me. I got the impression that I will pay only the copayment which I did on [redacted] 3 years ago. Dr. [redacted] was approchable though, but too bad the procedure was not effective on my knee problem.Final Business Response /[redacted]/Our office will sometimes file the claim and bill later, not to elude the patient, but as a courtesy to make sure they are paying the correct amount with so many people using healthcare savings and flexible spending accounts for payment. We can't compare paying only a co-pay 3 years ago with today, because plan benefits change yearly. Upon review of this plan benefit there is a co-pay due for not only the physician visit, but also for other services including x-ray, ultrasound, etc. This plan also holds the patient responsible for 30% of the plan allowable for drugs or supplies. Our staff does check with insurance carriers to be sure that any necessary prior authorizations are in place, but it is ultimately the patients' responsibility to know their insurance coverage.
