Review: On Monday, September 30 I took a suit jacket in for dry cleaning services. I pointed out the cosmetic stains on the collar to the attendant asking if they could clean and remove the stains which were light to medium stains. The attendant assured me they could safely clean the garment. When I returned to pick up the garment on Wednesday, October 16, I learnt the jacket had not be cleaned, but was further damaged by the cleaners attempts to clean the garment. The jacket is ruined. The attendant never bother to call me to inform me of the incident and their failure to clean the garment, failed to take any responsibility for the additional damage (claiming the jacket was received in that condition), and basically threw me out of the store when I challenged their responsibility for the damage.Desired Settlement: I want the cleaners to assume responsibility for destroying my jacket, apologize for their reprehensible treatment towards me when confronting them, and compensate me for the full purchase price of the jacket. I only wore the garment once and purchased it on September 12 in New York City. The cost of the garment is $195.00.

Please be advised that this office represents the above named business, the respondent.

Respondent denies the complainant’s allegation that he threw the customer out of the store, but was courteous all the time while they were discussing the issue.

My client admits that the color of the jacket was purged onto the collar of the jacket, while he was attempting to remove the stains.

The issue is whether or not the jacket was made of such fabric that produces such result, no matter how prudently the cleaner had cleaned the jacket. It requires a scientific evaluation by an expert to determine the nature of the material.

I suggest that the jacket be sent to the International Fabric Institute for such evaluation, that will determine whether or not my client Is liable for the damage.

Meantime I have a few questions directed to the complainant;

1) When and where was the jacket purchased and the price thereof.

2) Whether it had been cleaned before, if so, when and where.

I request that the complainant return the jacket to the respondent with the answers to the above questions, so that we may send it to the International Fabric Institute for the evaluation. We will pay for the damage if the Institute determine that it was caused by my client’s negligence.

If it determines that it was not caused by my client’s negligence, then, we will have to charge the complainant the cost of the evaluation and other incidental expenses including the attorney’s fee.

I am rejecting this response because:

The condition of the jacket in questioned has been compromised since leaving Waldorf Cleaners and filling this compliant. Howeve, I have attached the sales receipt as proof of purchase to include the date and location of purchase. The jacket was first worn on Sunday, September 29, during a preaching engagement, after which it was taken to Waldorf Cleaners on Monday, September 30 to be cleaned. In direct answer to the question, "Whether it had been cleaned before, if so, when and where". The response is, "the jacket had not been cleaned prior to this incident." I have also attached photos of the stains to the jacket which occurred while in the care of the Waldorf Cleaners.

While the gentlemen at the Waldorf Cleaner's denies throwing me out of the store, I stand by my description of his actions. His exact words to me where, "take your things and you go", as he motioned me to the door with his hands while employees in the store looked.

In the opening of this response, I indicated the condition of the garment has altered since leaving the Waldorf Cleaners. To clarifiy that statement, I am thrilled to report that the garment has been cleaned through another venue and all stains completely removed. The ability to enjoy the use of this garment was always most important to me. I am relieved to have the stains completely removed.

In closing, I'd just want to say, I am completely appauld by the position the Walodrf Cleaners took on this issue and the manner in which they choose to respond. As a customer of their business for the past several years, I expected a higher level of customer services and a more amicable approach to resolving the issue. To say I am dissapointed in the the position the Waldorf Cleaner chose is an understatement. As a customer of their establishment and a Minister, I was and continue to be stunned by their response/actions on this issue. Perhaps they should keep in mind consumers have a choice to patronize their business and as a result of this incident they are no longer my vendor of choice.

As I have acheive my desired outcome, the ability to wear my garment, I consider this matter closed.

I am glad that [redacted], the complainant has achieved a satisfactory result from other cleaners, which Waldorf Cleaners was not able to provide.

My client is willing to reimburse the cost of the services rendered by other cleaners. Please send me the invoice.
