Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2015/03/20) */
We were contacted by Mr*** *** and Ms*** *** several months ago regarding issues they were having with their vinyl flooring raising while their clothes dryer was running and in turn had concerns about the effects of negative
pressureOur investigation confirmed that when the dryer was turned on, and as the dryer began pulling air from every crevice it could find the vinyl flooring began to liftNegative pressure is a natural occurrence and can happen when wind applies pressure to a building or when appliances & fans exhaust more air than is suppliedNegative pressure is a common occurrence in any home but where we do not glue our vinyl flooring (for ease of serviceability) and where our homes are so energy efficient and air-tight, the effects of negative pressure become visually obvious as an appliance such as a dryer begins exhausting air from the homeAlthough HRV's are installed in our homes, they are not designed to provide makeup air to appliances
To come up with a practical solution we have been in contact with many industry experts such as *** **, ***, Dryer suppliers, HVAC contractors, Architects & EngineersFrom the folks we have talked to there is no cause for concern with periods of negative air pressure as the HRV will rebalance the home once the drying cycle is completeThe consensus is that cracking a window slightly during the drying cycle or gluing the flooring to prevent the pillowing effect is the simplest solutionAttached is an email from ** appliances and a preliminary report from *** *** *** providing their comments
Mr*** & Ms*** did not appear to be satisfied with either of these options so they then contacted *** performed an investigation and attached is a copy of their report
To date the only solutions we can provide are gluing the flooring or cracking a nearby window during dryer operationWe have also offered to have an HVAC technician inspect the HRV to ensure it is properly functioning and balanced to ensure air pressure is being equalized effectively after a drying cycleOther mechanical solutions to provide makeup air to the dryer may be available however there is no apparent off-the shelf solution and therefore will require proper engineering and testing which can take some timeIf this is the approach Mr*** & Ms*** wish to take we will consider other mechanical options
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/03/25) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
We are not satisfied with the response we received from Prestige HomesTheir solution is to glue the floor downThis is just a Band-Aid solutionThe problem still existsPrestige Homes recommends cracking a window during drying cycles - this is not a viable solution either, as the cold air comes rushing into the home and the dryer depletes the house of all its heat (or air-conditioning as the case would be in summer)
The amount of air that comes rushing in the window when you open it during a drying cycle is the same amount of air that exits the dryer to the outside of the home*** did a smoke test and confirmed thisHow long do you think we could keep a window open until all the heat is gone out of the house!
Prestige Homes said other mechanical solutions to provide makeup air may be available, but they admit there is no off-the-shelf solutionHow long can we be expected to live in this situation, where every time we do a laundry, our house is depleted of all its heat? So much for Prestige Homes' energy-efficient houses!
***
Prestige Homes says there is no cause for concern with negative air pressure, but we are very concerned and stressed living in a brand new house where we can't do a proper laundryTheir solution is always the same - glue the floor down and open a window, and they keep asking for more timeThis has been going on since fall of - how much time do they want?
We are open to solutions but have not been presented with anything that will solve the negative air pressure and all the heat loss

On April 21, we received an email from Mr*** ***, and the design for a clothes dryer maair ductWe spoke to Mr*** on the phone on April 23rd with some concerns, but did give him permission to proceed with the maair ductThis system has never been used before and we are hoping it will resolve our problemIf not, Mr*** will have to come up with another design

Prestige Homes no longer has personnel in [redacted] so service work has been coordinated with a contractor from [redacted] for the past two years. This year the contractor has been running behind schedule with his local work in ** and...

has not yet been able to travel to [redacted]. To the best of our knowledge the items left to complete at the client's home are replace roof shingles with proper colour where previous repairs were made last winter and weather stripping around the exterior doors. The roof shingles are not a readily available colour so we we plan to ship these from our factory with the crew from **. The leak in the upper bath was resolved as we provided a cheque to the client for the repairs which they initially paid for. The have since received the cheque. Understanding that the season is quickly slipping by we have contacted a local contractor in [redacted] to help complete the remaining repairs at the clients home. He will contact the customer directly.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I am still confused as to why it takes 3 years to replace weather stripping on exterior doors.
I would also like to have a confirmed date for the shingles to be replaced as our warm weather is slipping away, and replacing shingles once we have frost would not be acceptable.
The leak in the upper bath has been fixed, however there is still plastering and painting to be finished, as the brand/colour of paint on the ceiling was not provided, and since the ceiling has been painted 3 times already, I would like to only have to colour match the small area and not paint the entire ceiling for a 4th time.
I still have not heard back from a local contractor, and have no indication of when I should be expecting to hear from them.
Thanks

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
your company had a local contractor come on August 15th to look at repairs that are outstanding, still as of today, September 7th he still has not heard back on whether or not he can proceed with repairs. And now you are telling me there is an additional sub contractor who may or may not be able to complete any repairs, this still does not give me any confirmation of when ANY work will be completed. Like I said,
for 3 years now I've been told the repairs will be completed, however I am still waiting to see the repairs be made. For a brand new home, this is not the headache I wanted to purchase, the customer service I have received in the past 3 years leaves plenty to be desired.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 18, 2016/09/07) */
There is a contractor from ** heading to [redacted] this week and he has agreed to deliver some material for us. He may also be able to do the repair which would be either the week of Sept 12th or 19th. If he is unable to fit this in to his schedule we will send our own carpenter the week of Sept 26th.
