Wall to Wall Handyman

Review: After calling the only reference he provided, I hired [redacted] on August 12, 2013 to complete a basement remodel project except for carpeting. Work included installing ceramic tile for two window sills and an alcove for a gas heater; build a header and install shelves, supports, and bi-fold door for one closet, shelves, supports and two by-pass doors for another closet, three pre-hung doors and trim, including a louvered vent in a furnace room door, as well as baseboard throughout half my basement. All materials except tile mastic and shelving, which he purchased and for which I paid him, were already on site.He began by installing tile and found that the mastic he had purchased was incorrect. It was intended for use on wallboard, not cement, and would not dry. He did not read the label before beginning, therefore wasting most of the container. All the tile he cut was crooked. He alternated frequently between setting tile and working on installing doors, frames and closet shelves, all of which were crooked and improperly installed. He never finished one task before starting another and didn't clean up after himself. He was very unprofessional, careless and sloppy and ruined all the materials he worked on. He was drinking alcohol also with his lunch. I fired him on August 15 but paid him $1262.00 before I thoroughly examined the work he did, which was my mistake. I had to purchase more materials and hire two different men to remove and re-install everything which increased costs. Very little of the tile could be salvaged and I had to clean the mastic off of all of it.I called him within the next day or two and told him I wanted my money back since he guarantees his work. He stated he had invested the money I gave him in a deck job he was doing and I would have to wait until he was paid. I called him several times and got no response. His ad and business card state that he provides free estimates, work guaranteed, licensed with 30 years experience, and phone [redacted]Desired Settlement: Refund of total amount I paid him which was $1262.00.

Review: On 8/2/2014, I hired Wall to Wall Handyman to re-vent my bathroom fan to exhaust outside for $165.00 and to move a light fixture for $135. [redacted] and his son came and worked on the project and after an hour or two, said that both were completed. The light was fine and I could see from the ground that a hole had been made in the roof and a exhaust fitting of some kind was installed. I assumed that my bathroom vent was now venting outside of the house and that the project was complete and paid [redacted] $300. On 8/25/2014, I was looking in my attic and noticed that the old duct was still attached to the bathroom fan and that the new ductwork came down from the roof and just hung there completely unattached to the fan. In other words, the fan still exhausted into the attic and the new ductwork was completely useless. [redacted] Wall NEVER attached the new duct to the old fan assuming that I would probably never know the difference. I called [redacted] on 8/25 at 9:30 pm, 8/26 in the morning and evening, 8/27 in the morning and 8/28 in the morning. [redacted] never returned any of my calls.Desired Settlement: $200 refunded to me to cover the cost of a new contractor coming out and finishing the work.
