carry over information needed for the completion of the 2014 tax return. We received a confirmation email from the complainant on Friday, January 30, 2015 stating they had an appointment to have their taxes done on February 12, 2015, with a Licensed Tax Consultant at 4:00p.m. Attached to the email was the complainant's 2013 tax return. The tax return had all required social security numbers included on the return. The complainant and her husband arrived on time for their appointment and brought in most of the required source documents in order to complete the return. Several items were still needed In order to complete the return and the complainant provided the items to the tax preparer via phone calls and/or emails. The return was completed on February 19, 2015, and a phone call was made to the complainant that their taxes were ready for pick up. The charge for the prep fee of completing the tax return was $205. On April 10, 2015, a staff member called the complainant since the tax return still had not been picked up. The complainant informed the staff member that they decided to complete their return using Turbo Tax. We were never notified that the complainant no longer wanted our services prior to this time. Several hours were used in order for the entire process of completing the return. The owner decided to reduce the $205 tax prep fee to an $80 consulting fee because the complainant entered into an oral contract that they wanted our service for preparing their 2014 tax return and had provided us the required documents to prepare it. Several weeks later the complainant left a voicemail about the $80 invoice. Her phone call was returned and the staff member tried to explain that the consulting fee was compensation for the several hours of labor to complete the return. The complainant stated that she would not pay the invoice, and that she would turn us Into the Revdex.com. Thanks for your help,

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because my husband and I never entered into a verbal contract. We were never told that there was a preparation fee or a documentation fee of any kind.  As I mentioned before, we were told that our son's social security number was needed In order to finish the documentation. We did not sign for anything nor did we agree to pay anything at that time.  As I also mentioned before, I called the very next day and told the receptionist to hold off on doing our taxes because I wanted to get a second opinion.  My husband and I were also told during our appointments that because our taxes were so simple that they would not charge us much more than TurboTax would have. That was clearly untrue because now they're trying to charge 80 dollars just for the consultation . We only paid just under $75 to do them ourselves.  We feel that Walsh Tax Service has been very unprofessional and dishonest with us from the start.Sincerely,[redacted]

Re: [redacted] To Whom It May Concern: This is to address the additional response from the complainant in above-referenced matter. Walsh Tax Services does not advertise free consultations or free tax preparations nor do we advertise for price match guarantees with other tax agencies. However, we may estimate a price for tax preparation at the time of consultation, but the price would be subject to change based on the time and effort required to prepare the tax return. The claimant emailed our office on 01/30/15 to confirm her appointment for 2/12/15 "to have our taxes done" and attached documents required to setup the tax return In our software system. The claimant states that "I called the very next day" to inform us that she was seeking a second opinion and to hold off on preparing her taxes, which would have been 2/13/15. However, we have no record of receiving that message and, as a matter of fact, we received an additional email from the claimant on 2/17/15 with additional information and/or documents to complete her tax return. It Is our position that we were engaged verbally by the claimant to prepare her tax return for 2014 and did not receive information contrary to this position until after the returns were completed on 4/10/15. As a gesture of goodwill, we generously reduced our tax preparation fee from $205 to a consultation fee of only $80. We did not receive any Indication from the claimant about a dissatisfaction with the service she received until we contacted her regarding payment of her invoice.
